Fur AND Feathers or Fur OR Feathers. Either is fine. A short description of the subject(s) would be appreciated.

My girlies
My girlies

Who knew it had those hairs above and beneath its beak?
Who knew it had those hairs above and beneath its beak?

The above are examples of the obvious. However you can be creative, there are many things which could fit this challenge.

The challenge is now open and will end at 1pm GMT Thursday 12th April. I will announce the results the following day.

I will endeavour to acknowledge all exhibits and entries; to facilitate this it would help if all entries and exhibits were posted as replies to this thread rather than as responses to others' posts within it. Thank you.

As I am in the UK please also bear in mind that my acknowledgements might not be immediate and next week there are a couple of days when I will not be on the internet much.

I really look forward to seeing your Fur and/or Feathers images.

PLEASE NOTE.

As I expect there might be a few entries I would like to introduce a MAXIMUM number of exhibits for this challenge, TWO only please. And, for this challenge, only entries will be considered for Honourable Mentions and Places.

**********************************************************************

Other than the above the general rules are the same as always...

1. Submit a maximum of 3 Entries to win and/or TWO Exhibits.

2. Photos must have been taken by you but can be from any camera, including cell phones, and may have been taken at any time.

3. There are no restrictions on processing or on composite shots - all are acceptable. It's the image that counts, not how it was produced.

4. Please state in the header of your post, or in the comments bar below each image, whether they are "Entry" or "Exhibit". Non-labelled submissions will be assumed to be Exhibits.

5. Please post all images using the "Reply to thread" button below this first post.

6. At the end of this challenge, I will announce First, Second and Third places from the Entries in a separate RESULTS thread and I may select some other entries for Honourable Mentions.

Grand Prize: The First Place winner becomes the host of the next challenge and has 3 days to begin it. The winner can respond to the challenge setter with a forum post or PM. If that individual doesn't respond in 3 days, or has to decline to serve, the Second Place winner becomes the next host. If that individual declines to serve, the Third Place winner becomes the next host.

7. To begin the next challenge it's easiest to cut and paste the text of this message into your new thread opener and modify it to suit your challenge.

Have fun.

David

Great idea for a Challenge, David!

Entry #1: Fur AND feather in one image? My elderly buddy, Chase, retrieving a wild pheasant during the regular season last fall - looking me in the eye as he almost always does.

Entry #2: Swimming fur? Here is Ms. Joy is cooling off by swimming in the green water of a 1740's millrace last summer:

Exhibit #7: "Hello!" Some more hobby farm critters - Highlanders. They are OK if you watch out for the intact bull (in the background here) If you don't, best hope you've got your track shoes on and you've practiced your fence leaping skills.

Because I was trying to limit the number of exhibits to TWO per person.

That went well.

Ha Ha.
However, what a fabulous group of photographs. Specifically regarding the entries, the dogs look great..it is those wonderful eyes in each photograph. I had thought of doing "eyes" as a challenge, they would have made great entries. And the bat, I saw literally tree loads of what they call Flying Foxes when on my trips to Australia. I remember two things...the noise and the smell.

And the exhibits, yes all of them, are fantastic. You know what I think of that eagle, its eyes make me shiver, and the crested pigeon is extraordinary...I genuinely have never seen one before. And as for the wolf...WOW. And the one captioned "a prisoner"......the look, goodness me.

Great job Greg, thank you.

David

The bat photo instantly brought up a funny memory.

My late wife had a fascination with Dicks. If we saw a horse in a field with a "Woody" she would make me pull over to look. And when my son was a baby I was in the bathroom and she was yelling for me to hurry up and come in the bedroom where she points at my son while changing diaper and is saying.."Look, he has a "Woody". I said Big deal!

Now to the story after that background.

I have been embarrassed only 2 or 3 times in my life. I just don't get embarrassed, but we were at a zoo in this bat house and there were people with their kids in there. There were all these big bats like the photo hanging around. All of a sudden she blurts out really loud and excited..."Look at the **** on that bat!" I literally ran out of there..EMBARRASSED!

Thanks for the memory, Greg All Nice shots as usual...

Very good Bill, clearly it is just checking! I haven't tried animations but I must. I also want to have a go at slo-mo.

Oh, goodness..... Humble apologies!! I must confess that I didn't read the into except for the part dealing with the subject matter, foolishly thinking that it was the same blurb we use again and again. If you know a way to do this, I'll be happy to go back and edit my post to delete the too many exhibits, but, as far as I know, I can't do that now. Sorry - there was no intention of violating the rules.

Those "flying foxes" give me the shivers. The on I photographed had its wings out with strong backlighting for just a second, so you could see of the structure, veins, etc. Ugh.

:-) :-D I think I would have run outside and hid in the bushes at that point, too.
