Fuji X-Pro1 Viewfinder (eyepiece - non - Diopter)

Hello:

I am trying to figure out the best method to adapt using the eye viewfinder on my Fuji X-Pro1.

It is nearly “impossible” - especially wearing glasses and having TRI-FOCALS, which are not allowing me to “focus” (to see focus), and forget the thoughts of MANUAL focusing.

Is there any adapter / alternative eye-piece diopter “add-on” or something I could try to use?

Certainly, other owner / users of the Fuji X-Pro1 (beside just me) also wear glasses.

Thanks for your help…

Have a nice day,

Ed

I have heard that the Nikon Diopter' will fit on the X-Pro 1

Nikon part Nikon DK-17C for a +2.0 you can find them on some of the popular camera sites.

This dates from the days of fitting a separate correction lens to your camera for your prescription. You need a lens of the strength of your distance vision correction. As above Nikon's fit, Fuji made them of course and IIRC Zeiss ones fit too, made for their Ikon rangefinders.

I should add this is why I didn't buy an X-Pro1. We managed years ago, but nowadays the adjustable eyepiece is the ticket. This was a serious error on Fuji's part, now corrected.

The UK Fuji shop has +1,2 and 3 lenses for £12

Fuji do -2 through to +2 dioptre eye piece correction lenses, though some values have been discontinued from the range can be hard to find now. Cosina Voigtlander versions however are the same fitting and available in the same range. the old Nikon ones again fit but the marked values do not correspond to the same values as the Fuji/Cosina types, you would need to google to find details of corresponding values.

One issue you may come across is finding out the value you actually need, the only real way is to find a store that has them in stock and who will let you try to see which is best for you.

I wear varifocal glasses and could never find a correction lens that provided a comfortable view, always had to look through viewfinder at an awkward angle. Another issue I found with the Xpro1 was that the electronic display appears to be set at a different viewing distance to the optical, when using the optical I could get a clear view of the overlaid numbers in the viewfinder but not the actual scene. Conversely using a different value correction lens a clear view of the scene but not the overlay, this of course with this correction lens also made the electronic VF was unusable.

No issues at all using the XT1/2 or EX models of Fuji camera all which used electronic finders and of course had built in correction. I finally gave up on the Xpro1 because of this issue and changed to the Xpro 2 which is no problem.

There are plenty of lenses out there that fit from Fuji, Nikon, Cosina and others.

Personally I much prefer this arrangement to the X-Pro2 - it was elegant and it worked just fine, you fit the lens you need and forget it, job done.

The X-Pro2 adjustable setup is poorly designed, easily knocked and often needs readjustment, and adds a bulky and frankly ugly protusion at the back of the camera. The XP2’s OVF is also slightly smaller than the 1’s and it’s a fair guess this is due to the added complication. As a final insult the rubber eyecup is now flimsily glued on and prone to dropping off randomly, rather than firmly screwed in. I wish they’d ignored the whingers and left it alone tbh.

You are right about the need to re-adjust and it is a minor irritant.
