I have a kenko 1.4x pro 300 dgx teleconverter that was working with a 5D2. Autofocus used to work with this converter and a 70-300 f5.6 lens (resulting in f8).

I tried the teleconverter today with a 5D4 and I got several problems:

- 00 aperture with a Canon 70-300 USM IS II

- Camera unable to focus or take pictures with a 100 f2 lens

- Camera did not turn off with Sigma 50 mm f1.4 lense

After removing the teleconverter and turning the camera off, the camera works again.

Is there a compatibility problem between the 5D4 and this Kenko teleconverter?

Could these problems be an indication of either camera or teleconverter malfunction?

Yep, Success!

My 5d4 is working fine with the Kenko Pro DGX 1.4x and EF 300Lis F/4.0. I had to turn off Micro Adjustment to get it to work.

Strange thing is. I can leave Micro Adjust on for my 24-105Lis and the 100-400Lis with this Kenko.

Proof is here,
As I have to change exposure when using this teleconverter I might as well take off the Micro Adjust and power off (battery out) and power on before using this lens.

I'm on the latest firmware 1.0.4 and hope I can still get Magic Lantern loaded when that comes available.

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Do you need to disable AF microadjustments for all lenses or is it enough to set a microadjustment equal to zero for the 300L?

If you disable AF microadjustments to use the teleconverter and then enable them to use other lenses, do you know if the camera still remembers the adjustments values stored for other lenses?

Can you explain what you say about "having to change exposure" with this teleconverter?

I have at least two lenses that dont work well with this converter.

My 135L will crash the 5D4 and i have to remove the battery.

My 70-300L works but exposure is all over the place. Mostly way over exposed, even though the camera meter is showing its fine. Manual exposure works fine though.

Both the above lenses worked fine with my old 5D3, but the issues started when i got my 80D, and continued with my 5D4.

Guess its time for Kenko to bring a new version out.

... or add an usb dock for firmware updates.
If i could buy the dock without needing a new TC then i would do that. If i had to buy a new TC to use the new dock, then i dont think id bother.

If my 70-300L took the Canon TC id happily buy one of those, but as it is id rather not risk damaging the 70-300L

I do like the fact that i can use the Kenko TC with my EF-S lenses on my 5D4, not that i do that a lot. its been handy in the past though.

Santi, Yes I have to disable the MS when using the kenko. the MS is then off for all lenses stored in the 5d4.

When I put only the 300mm of any other lens on I have to enable the MS and all stored settings are still there for those lenses.

Changing the exposure I have to do in the negative for -1 or sometimes -2 in very bright scenes when the kenko is on with any lens. The Kenko or any teleconverter will overexpose a bit. So If I don't do this the image gets washed out so to speak.
