What has been your experience using OM1? You say you have mixed feelings...what are they?

Yes, I use On1 but not often for basic processing as I still tend to do that in Lightroom (mainly because I managed my photos there and still like LR). Once I've got an image (or images) that I want to publish / print I will finish it off in On1 - I set the LR contrast and sharpening to zero and use On1's adjustments to do that instead. That's mainly for detailed landscape images.

I seem to get rather poor results with more noise and lack of detail that even with ON1's good "after conversion processes" don't seem to match my jpeg results straight from the camera so I have to come to the conclusion that the "conversion" is the issue, I just wondered it it's worth persevering.

I been using On1 since their 2017.5 release, which was made available around June last year I believe. I've since upgraded to their 2018 release (2018.1 was released a day or 2 ago, but I haven't used it yet) and things have only gotten better (closing the feature parity gap with Lightroom, as well as increased performance vs their 2017 release).

I really like their effects module for creative processing, and the software ships with a robust preset collection. They also have a healthy amount of tutorial/educational videos on their youtube channel for those that want to take a deeper dive into post-processing/retouching.

That's a very brief summary of why I like On1. If you can narrow down an area to which the advice you seek would apply, maybe I or someone else here can offer more specific help.

Cheers!

I installed the free trial on my iMac. I also have Luminar 2018, which I purchased. ON1 was much, much faster in opening RAF files than Luminar. The one thing I don't like about ON1 is that it doesn't have a history list of edits, so you have to undo edits sequentially. Luminar allows you to go directly back to a previous edit, which is a feature I like. Lightroom has had this feature for years, and I use it frequently. I don't know how many other image editing programs have this feature.

The initial RAW conversion for ON1 seems to provide a nicer starting image than either Lightroom or Luminar. The exposure and contrast seem to reflect the actual scene more accurately. The latter two programs provide a duller image, but of course those can be adjusted.

ON1 has lens adjustments for a lot of Fuji lenses, but it didn't seem to have one for the 90mm f/2.

If you decide to uninstall ON1 from a Mac, the uninstall utility that ON1 provides leaves lots of files and folders behind. I had to uninstall them manually.

This guy seems to like it quite a bit

I've only used their On1 Effects 10 version as plugin to LR and am very pleased with their filters (more so than Luminar)

Don't think I can do better with LR, but I do use LR/CS6 for further adjustments after applying the filters

I'm not seeing anything wrong with On1 (but have not tried the RAW version)

I've used OnOne for RAFs since it first came out in late 2016 and find it much better than ACR/Photoshop Elements or SilkyPix DS Pro 7 that I was using before. It keeps getting better and better with each new upgrade. 2018.1 was just released yesterday. Besides improving what was there, they've added more than a dozen new features.

I've discovered that OnOne will also allow a great deal of enhancing with sooc jpegs, to the point where I've almost eliminated shooting RAFs. I decided earlier this year to move my cloud storage from DropBox to iCloud and use Apple Photos as my catalog because I have a Mac, iPad, and iPhone. Besides having separate access to OnOne, two of the modules function as Apple Photos plug-ins.
