First check out more photo on the new PowerShot SD10 at this link :

http://pc.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/2003/0912/canon1.htm

what i want to point out is that nowaday point and shoot digital camera are the main selling spot in the market , especially those model which is light weight and tiny . From last year until now , those camera that sell like hot cakes are Olympus Stylus Digital , Fujifilm Finepix 401/410 , Minolta DiMAGE X series , Casio EXILIM series , Pentax Optio S , Nikon Coopix 2100/3100 ... and the Casio EXILIM EZ3 even take the no.1 sales in Japan for straight 3 months !!

so Canon are losing their share in the P&S market , so the drop CF and choose SD card , make the camera very thin and tiny , also make a fantastic look on the design , so we have the PowerShot SD10 ...

Consumer buyer love digital camera , they use to take snapshot everyday , they know very little knowledge in Photography , but they enjoy alot on digital photo taking while using the LCD preview , no need to worry abt film and processing cost , just shoot , so when times go , using DC to take picture has gain a lot of fun for younster , especially femal user , later digital camera has become a fashion sign , the body design and form factor stand an important role ...

now Canon has intoduced the thin , smaller form factor of new PowerShot SD10 , so i believe this new kids is going to strike back on Casio EXLIM EZ3/EZ4 and Pentax Optio S , also for your info , Panansonic and Kyocera also just intoduced the thin form factor digital camera ... look like this Christmas is very exciting ...:-) check this link to see the new DC !!

Canon is certainly looking to cover all the bases with things like the 10D, the 300D, and now for the "hipsters" - this SD10. I find it interesting the market this new "snappycam" is aimed at... not so much those who are truely intered in photography, but those who want a "fashion accessory" and have to have the "latest thing." It's much like we have seen with cell phones...kids think you just aren't cool if you don't have one. "Hey..check this out!" will be the phrase for those looking for extra attention at the cocktail party or "rave" with their SD10. I gotta give Canon credit though.. they are certainly creative in their marketing strategy.

The new Kyocera is very interesting. 3 MP, lens 38 - 115 mm equiv, movie 640 x 480 30fps, MD/SD card, dimensions 100 x 65 x 15 mm, weight 125 g (no batt), list price Euro 450.

I think I'll skip thi sone for now. If I didn't already have a S400 I might've consider this. Now, my thinking is that anything less features than my S400 will have to fit into my cell phone. Otherwise there's too many compromise.

I've always had problem with cameras that are TOO small. But for the average joe, the size is big selling point.

Do you have a link to this new Kyocera?

Cheers,

Try the 5.7x digital zoom, and learn how much nicer a zoom lens would have been ;-)

(Actually, I don't think it's so bad. The size is nice, and the image quality too probably).

Agree with the other guy. Sorry William, I missed those links the first time.

lean to zoom with your feet. 95% of the time, that will give you the coverage you needed and it usually makes better composition as well (because you have to move around rather than standing in one place)

I never learn. I should know better by now that these forums only make me spend more money, but I'm too dumb to stay away =)

It's not the same thing, is it? I think there are times when zooming in a little would be better than moving closer. Or when zooming out a little would be better than stepping back. Arguably though, most digital cameras don't allow you to zoom out much more than the canons fixed setting. And (more importantly) it fits comfortably in your pocket, so you'll take it where you wouldn't take a regular size camera.
Cheers
