I am about to buy a Sigma 150-600 sport for my D810 and D3. But a eBay seller recently told me the Sigma has some focusing issue and Sigma told them not to sell the lens in the time being.

Do anyone know is this true? Maybe in the current batch? Or it is a long time problem?

Thanks ahead

Vic

Wish I could give you some insight on that but it would be news to mean about a focus problem. I just picked one up this morning from a local shop. Am loving it so far.

By any chance, was the Ebay price kind of low ? And by any chance did they try to get you to buy a different lens instead ?

So far the focusing has been quite nice, until you get into poor lighting then it will tend to hunt. Sigma is expected to release a firmware update next month. See the announcement at the following link.

If they improve performance of AF to the degree mentioned in the update notice, the 150-600 will be an outstanding lens. It would be the first choice for this range - if only they could loose about 1Kg so it was not so darned heavy.

Don't think the seller is that kinda person. I deal with him before, seems nice. His feedback is 99.X%. So I guess he is ok.

Understood. It was just a thought. I've experienced a bait and switch tactic with some Ebay sellers in the past.Obviously suppliers, not individuals. Anyway, I've had my 150-600 Sport for a few days now, been testing just on feeder birds so far. The only thing I've noticed is the initial acquisition does seem a little slow at times but this has been mentioned in some reviews. Other than that I've found mine to be performing nicely, even in poor light.

You are lucky to have birds flowing around. In where I live, Calgary, Canada, it is still too cold for most bird.

Hi there

Any other reports of issues with the Sigma 150-600/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sports lens. I have had mine for a few years and only use occasionally (10-20hrs/year) without issue until yesterday. I was using at a sports event over the last few days and yesterday it has decided that it won't focus in autofocus mode or takes several seconds to focus and then as soon as I track a moving subject it goes out of focus and won't refocus in auto. I purchased from an authorised reseller/retail store in Sydney Australia. I have read about possible software updates but don't have the usb and the website they recommend at sigmaoptimisationpro seems to be shut down? Any help appreciated. Mark

This thread is a bit old.

Are you clear on all the switch selections? Maybe the distance switch is restricting the distance you desire. Have you cleaned the contacts of the lens and camera recently? If not, do so and see if that takes care of the issue.

After that, I suggest you check your firmware and update if need be. Either get the dock or take the camera and lens to a store that deals in Sigma lenses and see if they will check the firmware or have other advice for you. Honestly, you should already have the dock as it has all of the tuning features besides being able to update the firmware while sitting in your home.

Best of luck in resolving your issue.

Ive had my sport for about two years now and it has been a great lens. Recently I was shooting and the autofocus quit working. It would try and focus and then quit again. Sent it to Sigma and about three weeks later I got it back and it is working perfectly.

On another note, I have two Nikon D500's. On one body I did a fine tune autofocus with the the lens. I put the lens on the other D500 a few days ago and it was slightly out of focus on the long end. I put it on the D500 that I had fine tuned and it was spot on. I did the fine tune about a year and a half ago.

Hi, its not the switch selections but I have not cleaned contacts in a while so will try that. Good advice on the dock and firmware update. I have spoken to an authorised repairer and they have said if I send it in they would also do the firmware update. I will get them to send me a usb dock so I can do it myself in the future. Thx again for your advice and reply.

Thx for the feedback I will try the fine tune but I have also spoken to an authorised repairer and they seem to think it could be something a little bit more complex. Fortunately I bought a 5 year warranty with the lens so any issues should be covered by that. It is just the inconvenience of being without the lens for a month or so.

I own the Sigma 150-600 Sports. Its already the second lens with focus-problems. With the first lens focus did not work at all. They gave me a new one. With the second lens autofocus works only with 150 mm or between 0 and 50 meters.
