Hi everybody,

It has happened again. Our mermaid in the harbour has been a subject of vandalism. She was found in the water this morning. They must have used some kind of explosive.

It will be a while before she is back.

And on this day my sympathy for Sweden and NYC.

Senseless. It seems it doesn't matter where you live there are always some who want to do nothing but destroy and cause trouble.

Thanks for sharing Lena

I have no idea why it always is the "little mermaid". Maybe because she is easy to get close to. And she is not very big - has the size of a woman. But she i may of bronze so she is a bit heavy.

It's been on the news here. It's horrible, and I hope they catch her assailant and get to the bottom of it. My heart goes out to all concerned.

an attraction for Vandals. We have a beach here called Bondi Beach. It has a rocky headland similar to the one where you have your mermaid. I am fairly certain a Danish Sculpter created two Mermaids in Bronze many many years ago. They were absolutely beautiful with the waves breaking over them at certain stages of the tide. It wasn't very long before vandals had cut one's head off. Over the years they have been repaired many times and I'm no longer sure that they even exist anymore .. Just a shame they (the vandals) don't slip on the rocks while at their dirty work, and that would be the last we see of them ...

As I visited Australia last year and for that reason read a lot of books and brochures about your country I never read anything about mermaids. So you could be right that they have gone to the mermaid heaven. I'm sure if they were made by a dane or looked like our mermaid it would be in the danish books about Australia.

Our "little mermaid" was made by Edvard Eriksen in 1913.

Thanks for telling the story, Jack.
