Hi all,

I am looking for a tele photo lense. I have zeroed on the tamron 150-600 and the 150-600 g2. Since there is considerable difference in price in both. I am looking for advice from users who have used both. Is it really worth taking the g2. I have a nikon d7500 body. Thanks in advance.

You get what you pay for. I would go for the G2, if I had to pick between those two. It has some optical and AF improvements over the older version that will help you get better photos.

If you haven't considered it, also try the Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR. It's in the same price range, has a constant aperture of f/5.6, better VR, is very sharp throughout the focal range and plays well with a 1.4TC III for 700mm at f/8.

The G2 has several improvements and is sharper.

Agree with everything that has been said here. The first-generation 150-600 is not as sharp, so the higher price of the G2 seems justified. The Nikon 200-500 still beats that one, though - but is heavier and thus a bit more inconvenient to use. I have it and prefer it over the Tamrons, which I both tested, but that's an individual decision.
