I inquired about trading in my A7RII at B&H and they would not provide any idea of the trade in value until they receive the camera. I know there are a lot of factors involved with trade in value but I am just trying to get a general estimate of what a good condition A7RII is worth to determine if I can swing an A7RIII. Would greatly appreciate if anyone that recently completed a trade in (A7RII) can provide the amount they received.

I did one not with b&h for almost like one with 3k shutter count they offer 1149$, i asked them to return back, i bought used sony 16-50mm oss lens for 80$ abd they offer 45$. I will get min 1500$ if i sell the a7rii here or in other forum.

Don't trade it in. Sell it on your own. You'll get about 1600.

They offered me 1150.00 for mine the week before the A7RIII came out and 950.00 the week after. They had a rash of trade in's that week.

$1150 is a suckers price. I just bought a used one with 5000 shots on it for $1700. I agree that you should get at least $1600 for yours if you sell it direct. Forget about B&H and list it yourself.

I did not trade it in but did buy the A7RIII.

Thanks for the replies. $1500 is about the amount I need to get the A7RIII so it looks as if going the BH route plus the $300 Sony trade rebate won’t get me there. I dont really sell anything on eBay or similar so a bit aprehensive going that route with my A7RII. It is in great condition, fully operational with about 8K shutter count. Just concerned about getting scammed or the person saying there is a problem that I know was working fine. Any suggestions on how to sell it stress-free???

Sell on Craigslist for $1700 or $1500 if you want to sell faster then order A7RIII from greentoe with $300-350 off

You can call KEH (www.keh.com) or use their on line estimate to see what they'd give you for it.

Thanks. Just checked KEH and they are offering $960. Seems to be the same as BH.

So it appears selling it myself is my only option if I want to get at least $1500. But as I mentioned before I have never sold much of anything before so am concerned about being scammed or the person gets it and for some reason it is not working as expected (damaged in shipping, they dropped it and claim they received it broken, etc). I know those things don’t happen very often I just want to have all my bases covered if I go this route. It is in pristine condition and I know it works perfectly. I know this is deviating from a photography forum topic but if anyone has good advice on how to sell this without issues please pass along.

Got mine for $1600 - mint condition, 8K shutter, functions perfectly- eBay- be careful.

If your camera is in good condition with a low count and you are willing to personally vouch for the same then you can do okay - if you lie or fudge you will get slaughtered on eBay without mercy! I've sold some beautiful equipment and got a fair price- usually 60% more than KEH or B+H might offer...however I bought a used Zeiss 55 1.8 from KEH at a premium but I new I was getting a solid deal that they stood behind...it was all of that for an immaculate perfectly functioning lens. It's a trade off.

I have limited experience as an ebay seller (more so as a buyer) but recently sold an A7II and a lens to free up funds to buy an A7RIII. :-D I've had only one negative experience in the past; a buyer backed out of payment for a medical device I was selling, but I didn't lose money as I don't ship till the funds are received (paypal). Here are some suggestions.

This is a link to a useful guide for setting up restrictions for potential buyers on ebay.

You can specify in your item description that you will not accept offers from "zero rating" buyers (though I have had no problem with same). Also limit payment options to paypal.

So far my ebay experiences have been on the whole positive. I intend to sell my A7RII there soon as I have GAS towards an a9. ;-)

Sell on the buy/sell forum at fredmiranda.com and only sell to members with great feedback and who have been members for awhile. I have been using it for years and have had no problems.

I second this suggestion. Fred Miranda is a great place to buy and sell if you deal with members who have good feedback. Your chances of selling to someone who will try to scam you about the condition/function are virtually zero if you stick to established members. I've been trading there for years and have never had a problem. Use their Search tool to find out what your camera has been selling for recently. You'll have to pay a minimal membership fee to have Buy & Sell privileges, but you can get that for a one-month period for a very small fee.

then order A7RIII from greentoe with $300-350 off
Or with 450$ off :) Just got an offer accepted for 2750$
That’s an excellent price you got there. My friend recently got one for $2815 and I thought that already the lowest. This is better than the hassle of trade in.

Trade-in for camera equipment means "bend over." You will never get what you could with a private sale.

Thanks for the info. So it looks like either Fred Miranda or eBay to sell mine (will research both).

Also looks like greentoe is a good option. One question is if what you buy is from an authorized dealer with a US warranty.
