Sony Trade-in, $300 bonus for A7rIII and $500 for A9, Worth it?

Sony had this last year.


How many had the success to get what you think is worth?

Who do you trade-in with?

IF you have to trade with a big store, they get the benefit, not you as they decide what your camera is worth.

By my calculations I would get about $1400 in credit for a A9 by trading in my A7Rii (900 +500). I likely would do better selling my R2 on ebay especially if I buy the a9 on Greentoe where I got my A7Riii for $2950.

Who to trade up with? $300 on a7riii sounds a lot but your trade in camera will be at lower price at the dealer and you end up with no benefits.

B&H...I personally avoid Adorama like the plague, especially when it comes to trading anything of value.

For most current camera models, it may be better to sell off used equipment on a forum that doesn't charge brokerage fees. Then again, I always absorb PayPal fees and offer free shipping to encourage a quick sell, so this becomes a factor.

For me personally, there are some issues with the A7r3 that I'm not totally convinced I want to deal with, so I'm still on the fence.

B&H is offering between $950-990 on my A7r2 (they've always credited on the high side), where similar condition A7r2's have been recently selling used for around $1,450.

When I factor PP fees, shipping and deduct the trade-in bonus, I would only come out $100 ahead...which is not worth the hassle. So if I decide to get rid of my A7r2 for an A7r3, it will be heading to B&H shortly.

One option is to trade in a cheaper lens instead of your camera body. That will still allow you to take advantage of the trade in bonus, but you will lose less money by trading in your used gear through them.

Why doing trade in when you can order A7RIII with $300 -$350 off on Greentoe.

Well there's the hassle factor of having to negotiate with both, but ebay + greentoe is probably the best "trade-in" deal .
