** Weekly X Series Photo Thread 04 FEB - 10 FEB **

I have to say, Johnathan, you give me warm/fuzzy nostalgia often with your work. I started with the craft honing my chops with the landscape, wide and intimate. I'd get up to be an hour or more away by sunrise, and would just hike all day and hike out in the dark after sunset. I see a lot of those times in your photographs, only yours are better.

Respect. :)

It's nice to be in precipitation like this, but more so when there's a warm and inviting homestead close by. Just lovely. :)

I love what you pulled from that location, if I wasn't so far I'd want to check it out myself. These will have to suffice (and they suffice+ ). Nice eye. :)

Taken with the newly aquired XE2 and 18-55mm. Boy am I liking the Fuji ergonomics and lens
I have to give the 2nd and last images a shout for composition, those inspire me most. The treatment on the last shot might be a little harsh (sharpen + clarity?), but at the posted size it's not too bad (just something you might want to assess closer, moving forward). But there's something about the light on that last one that to me is most enjoyable/engaging.

This is a brick sculpture in a park called the Green in uptown Charlotte. When the 23mm f/2.0 came out I thought that it would be the lens that I would use the most, but no, I am liking the 35mm f/2.0 better. With the 23mm lens, I find that I need to crop a lot, where with the 35mm I can just let it fill the frame.

Winter in California and I find myself looking for color. These are the XC lenses. very pleased so far. I cropped the first shot and used curves a bit to bring the sky up in the reflection.

This one was in my neighborhood too.

Mt Diablo summit is only a 16 mile drive from my house, but takes over an hour. This shows San Francisco South Bay, the peninsula and the ocean beyond.

Just a little color in the yard.

Excellent set. The look seems very movie-like to me. Maybe I'm thinking of Taxi Driver. :-) I'm beginning to feel very lazy as a fair weather photographer!

Yet, put another way, between us we've got a good 18 hours of a day covered. One can't do it all, alone. ;)

I visited your album and liked your rendering of the photographs. They have an artistic touch............

I have admired your photos since you showed up in the Nikon forum with a D3100. You were able to make that little camera sing.

Thank you, Bob!

Back on my hummingbird kick again. We have some lovely little Anna's Hummingbirds visiting us throughout the year. Here one I thought might be worth sharing in this week's photo thread, taken just this afternoon.

Good fine feather detail about the head, and under such soft light. . . and to think the bodies are barely thumb sized. Sweet.

. . . I'd have lead with the last and closed with the first photograph.

They're all fine, but that first shot takes it home, IMO. :)

Amazing to see what parts of a hummers body are vibrating at more than the shutter. The eye and below up to neck seem static while rest, including beak are helping to keep it afloat !

Hiking the Israel National Trail, 1050 km, a piece every week or two. This week my wife and I hiked a section in Northern Israel near the coast, just behind the Carmel Range.

Of course CC is most welcome.

Best, Mo
