Hello,

I have a Mark 4 with a 35mm lens. This is my only gear. About a 3-4 lb payload. I want to shoot video of some multi week hikes I take. From what I understand I need a fluid head to get good pans and tilts. But a small light travel tripod generally does not come with a fluid head! I don't mind something on the higher end price wise but there does not seem to be anything that fits this need. Perhaps some hybrid setup would work. I would appreciate any suggestions.

I've used an inexpensive Velbon plastic fluid head on an Induro tripod for years. It is light and may work well for your needs. I recently bought a carbon fiber tripod and ball head and would switch out the heads if I knew beforehand that I was going to be shooting video. The Velbon head has held up surprisingly well. But I bought a larger Manfrotto video head for use when NOT travelling. It is too heavy and too large for travel, but it does work extremely well for video. Almost overkill for a DSLR, in my opinion.

You could look at the Manfrotto BeFree Live travel tripod, as it does have a very small video head.

I bought the head separately {Manfrotto MVH400ah}, for use on a mid-sized Manfrotto 190Go...for occasional hikes near home.

I was fortunate to find the MVH400ah head on Amazon for under £50 for a brief period...but I think they have now reverted to their usual prices, of around £80-£90, in the UK.

It is a nice little head for use with lightweight set-ups, and although not quite up to the same standard of pan/tilt movements as with my larger sized Manfrotto head...it is certainly pretty decent for such a small size, and good value for money.....although I did get it at a bargain price.
