When I shoot with Canon cameras I could get some RAW files. Than using some Canon software I could change the Coior Balance - from outo to cloudy, shadow, flash and so on.

Now using Leica cameras I getting DNG files and I didn't found same possibilities with any software.

Do you know any?

Or, no chance to find it?

What software did you try?

DNG is Adobe’s raw format. Just like Canon has it’s own proprietary raw format, you have to use something that recognizes it. Pretty straight forward.

DNG is an open-standard RAW format. In my opinion, it is AWESOME that Leica supports this, especially since Leica is a boutique brand.

When a new Leica model comes out, you don’t need to upgrade your software to use it. And long term file format compatibility is far better with DNG.

Key point: A DNG file is a RAW file, just as a Canon CR2 file is a RAW file.

You can use Lightroom or Capture One, or DXO Pro. Or another RAW developer.

Note that DXO PhotoLab does not recognize Leica CL files. Really makes me angry! I've contacted them, but they have been non-responsive.

or Raw Therapee (donation only). Also, DxO Optics 9 was released free; don't know whether it is still available and whether it supports your Leica SL or T.

As already noted. DNG is Leica's choice for raw file format. It is the counterpart to Canon's CR2, Nikon's NEF, etc., except that several camera makers also choose the open DNG format for their raw files.

if memory serves Adobe floated the dng as a universal raw format across camera platforms but it still not fully cought on. If it does then there would be no need to continually update the raw formats supported by your chosen browser

Dear Collegues,

Thank you for your's answers for DNG file, but nobody had answered me - does any software provide possibility to easy change of DNG file "light conditions" - from automatic to cloudy, sunny, flash, light temperature in K and so on.

Just to do it after shooting, when I do post proicess work with DNG files.

This feature is available in Canon basic software (I forgot name) to work with cr2 files.

Pls comment.

Regards,

yes, yes, yes.....If you use a program the recognizes DNG files. It’s just like any other raw format.

Adobe’s DNG was developed in hopes other maker’s might adopt it as a universal raw format. Leica chose to use it rather than develope its own proprietary format, so Leica’s raw files can be processed in any generation of Photoshop, Lightroom or Adobe Elements. There are other programs that recognize it, but I’ve only used Adobe’s programs.

Capture One does have those presets, although it gives you also better options to get the right white balance. It can read any DNG file, but the best result you will get when they have created a color profile for the specific camera. For the Leica CL it's not there yet, for various Leica models there is a specific profile.

As gregm61 mentioned, Leica DNG files open in Photoshop CS6 and allow me to adjust white balance, if this is what the OP is looking for. Same would be true of other Adobe programs. After all, aren't all DNG files the same, no matter what camera model they come from?

Every raw developer program I know has a dropdown menu for these conditions. The label is usually White Balance, but you may also find Color Balance or ...

If you want to understand what happens, there are many online tutorials for White Balance or Color Balance. After you understand, you can also use the temp/tint adjustments that accompany the dropdown menu in many programs.

Somebody has already mentioned Capture One. You could also use Adobe Lightroom (CC or Classic) or Adobe Photoshop. They all include raw converters that can handle a change in white balance from whatever you had set at capture to a different value in software. Just like what you are used to with Canon.
