dont listen to that guy.
once you go XQD, SD is PAiNFULLY SLOW and gimps the D500's performance.
you could have saved like $1k if you weren't interested in 10fps and unlimited buffer.

The only reason to not use XQD is penny pinching. Compared to the price of the camera, the price of memory cards is peanuts. Or maybe you think since you have a stockpile of old cards from previous cameras you want to keep using them.

You will never regret having a card that allows you to get the full potential of the camera you carefully selected.

I respectfully disagree.

The same logic would suggest we all need a 70-200 f2.8 when clearly for many people a 55-200mm will suffice.

Many peoples need are met by a D3400 or even an older more budget body for whom an XQD card would be superfluous.

Given that I believe there would be more D3400's sold than D500s, are the D3400 owners nothing but penny pinchers?

I'm yet to feel the need to upgrade to XQD as I don't feel it will add anything to my images or style of shooting.

I'll buy one eventually but currently having just bought a Nikon 17-55mm, I'm saving for a 20mm 1.8G.

An XQD is fairly low on my priority list, but your mileage may vary.

LOL, sorry Bob, but there are other reasons some of us bought the D500 than the "10fps and unlimited buffer", so I have to disagree with your assertion.

Just for the record, I was correcting the part of the OP that stated that the d500 required XQD. Certainly XQD is quicker/faster for when you need or want that. Shooting OCF at a local meetup today I didn’t, so I used sad cards, which also allow a tidy iPad workflow with the SD dongle. Horses for courses

I have the same cards, but I don't get that many images on a 32GB card. I typically get about 700 or so at 14-bit lossless compressed. My 64GB card gives me over 1100 of the same, though.

Unfortunately I couldn't get the XQD card in Israel but SD came with a new card which is almost as fast as tr XQD G

I ordered one but I doubt if I get it before going to Africa

From the reports I've seen, if they aren't now, they will be VERY soon! But, I believe I saw Nikon Rumors post a while back that Lexar cards are in stock at B&H and Adorama, at the least.
