Panasonic Image App stuck on one location

I am on my 3rd Panasonic Lumix camera (TZ110).

When researching to replace my previous Lumix, I found out and read up on the Panasonic Image App - specifically to allow me to geotag my photos. Lots of connection problems being discussed but nothing that seemed insurmountable. I have had no problems whatsoever connecting, synching, tracking and updating the EXIF files from the App. Problem is it gets stuck at the same location after a very short time, i.e. after a couple of photos, all subsequent ones show the same GPS coordinates. I assumed this was some issue with the App going to sleep. Phone is Samsung S7 Edge running Android 7 Nougat. I changed the settings to make Image App unmonitored, i.e. it will never be put to sleep, but the location issue is still occurring.

I have only managed to find a couple of posts on this issue and none of them seem to resolve it. Anybody have any ideas?

If geotagging is all you'd be using the app for, it might be easier and more reliable to instead carry a dedicated gps logging device. The photos can be geotagged later by matching timestamps with the gps trace. I've never used such a device, but have heard they're pretty foolproof...basically you just press a button and they begin recording continuously. Then you can download a .GPX file onto your computer which can be synchronized with the photos.
