Good source informs the new replacement for the current 1D will be the 2D, however this is all the information they would tell me. Unsure about any other camera spec's.

This is insane.

Canon's Flagship Cameras are ALWAYS EOS-1!!! A 2D would be a lower model.

Exactly what my initial reply was too, however I was reassured this is genuine. I too question the motive for such a change.

The mini-PMA starts tomorrow and there is complete silence in the rumor mill. Even the 300D that none of the reviewers got their hands on was leaked a couple of days before the event.

Of course there is nothing magical about the mini-PMA - the 300d was announced at Canon's own event - but that could be because they were ready to sell the cameras mid Sept and needed to get the announcement out earlier.

Any news about date?

As long as we listen to birdies whisper in our ears, we can continue the speculation on Canon's future announcements. This forum quickly dismissed Chuck Westfall's Canon 1D statement as almost heresy, bordering on slanderous. A birdie just now landed on my shoulder and whispered to me that the 1D replacement comes next Spring in Las Vegas. The current 1D will get a price cut to destroy Nikon's introduction of the D2H. Right after the birdie whispered in my ear, he crapped on my shoulder and flew off. I raise a glass to all those birdies whispering in our ears. This forum would be silent without the speculation of new cameras to come. The same birdie that whispered in my ear saw Babe Ruth point out his next home run and he was also present when Billy Buckner missed and he was certainly in the stands the night Wilt scored 100. No reviewers received the 300D before the announcement and they were not even told about it.

In the past people had received one and were under NDA. They would do the review and have it magically appear right after the official announcement was made.

In this case they were told at the same time as everyone else and then provided a camera for a review.

I've seen your posts for a long time on this forum, so I know you can read.

You said your post was fact, and I said the content of your post was fact but not your subject. Just to save you a click, you said:

" Your source is a fool ..."

To which someone else responded "that's an even more foolish statement."

All that aside, if the next Canon 1D isn't full frame, I don't see how they can name it a 1 class camera, and it probably should get a lower designation.

The Source gave this clearly ridiculous information only so that They can see how long it will take to leak on dpreview, and who the culprit would be =)

The best way to trace this is through blatantly false information.

If it couldn't equal the 1D in terms of FPS or something, then maybe a lower designation would be appropriate.

But if it's truly to REPLACE the 1D, then it's hard to see why they would call it any other than a -1 series name.

On the other hand, your comment about (in the future) only full-frame getting the -1 designation is a possibility . . it just leaves the -1D as the odd-man-out.

full frame: 1 series (with the price point to match)
1.3x: 3 series (lower price point closer to that of the D2h)
1.6x, some advanced amateur capabilities: 10 series
1.6x, consumer grade: 300 series

Just because it isn't a 1 series, doesn't mean it is not a pro camera (look at the film cameras)

Yes. The flagship camera is the 1Ds. The 1D lost the top spot a year ago. Where have you all been?

David:

You must realize that your 1D was the #1 camera up until a year ago. Since then the top spot is called 1Ds.

I have been predicting the 1D replacement along these lines for some time and got booed, but it makes sense.
