i'm currently saving for a machinery that can live up to my expectations regards shooting in low light, high-resolution etc. for filmmaking purposes. at this speed i'll most probably have enough money to get an 80d at the end of this august. but I am in between of getting an 80d, 77d and sitting on my money till the new and advanced 90d releases.

i currently use eos-m, which started to feel insufficient in some cases. but then again i'm a 17 yrs old planning to be a director and i don't shoot professional projects.

what do you think that I should do?

thank you

I think the 80D has better video options in terms of compression choices than the 77D, but the 90D will hopefully have 4K and an improved Digic for better DPAF performance. Since you're waiting till August anyways I'd save up the extra amount needed and wait till that releases, though who can say when that will actually be. Low light performance won't match a camera with a bigger sensor but with the right lenses you should be able to get decent performance

I would recommend looking at the SL2 (also known as the 200D). If video is your main concern it will give you nearly all the video capability as the 80D with the biggest difference being the SL2 does not have a headphone jack. The SL2 is selling for $499USD. The SL2 will help you determine what you want when you make your next purchase without breaking the bank. I think you will be better off with the SL2, the EF-S 18-55mm kit lens and the EF 50mm STM plus EF-S 10-18mm STM lenses that come in a kit. For about same price as a new 80D body alone you can buy the SL2 and these three lenses. Without some good lenses that can take full advantage of Canon's DPAF the camera body means little.

your wording sounded like a salesperson when I read inside :) but given all my options were canon products and the specs of the item you suggested, i can see why you're suggesting me this machinery. it is quite satisfying to see all this stuff you can get with a quite low amount of money. it is a price-performance beast in my opinion, i am considering your suggestion. appreciate it.

i think i'll be buying a 90d late 2018, (that's what most rumors say about release date.) but in the meantime i think i'll go with another suggestion that was told by another forum member, canon sl2. i appreciate both of your thoughts on this, thank you very much.

Another benefit of buying these lenses is you can use them all on the 90D if you choose to upgrade to it in the future. Also, I think you will be able to sell the SL2 easily if you choose to for a good price when, or if, you change cameras.

I doubt the 90D will be out this year. It won't come out before the 7D3. This year be 7D3, 5Ds2, serious M?
