2 lens only kit?

Thank you all for your kind suggestions.

I see an almost universal consensus with the 12, 17 and 45 being a kind of a holy trinity.

My most used focal range is 35 mm on FF and my second would be the 85.

So, I think I would go for the same with Pen equivalents.

On Sony FF, my widest lens is 28 mm and I almost never use it.

I think I'll stick to 17 + 45 mm combo for the moment and I'll see later if I miss other focal lengths.

Thank you all !

Not really. 12mm is too close to 17mm. It would be like adding a 25mm… just too close.

I prefer an ultra-wide like a 7-14mm or a Laowa 7.5mm rectilinear UW.

Take a look at the Panasonic 42.5mm f1.7 instead of the 45mm f1.8. It’s supposedly sharper across the frame and has much closer focus ability.

One more suggestion, in addition to the 17 & 45. I just received the Panasonic 25/1.7 this afternoon and did some test shots (nothing fancy) but the image quality from my initial shooting seem very good even out to the edges of the frame wide open. It’s not the equal to the O25/1.2 but for $150 it’s a nice addition to my Pen-F and will open up more shooting possibilities. Years ago I had a 35/1.8 on my D40 and it lived on that camera - more than my other two lenses combined.

Just a thought.

I'd actually argue 17 and 45 as the dynamic duo, and the 12, 25, and 75 as the holy trinity. But you can't go wrong with the 17 and 45 - unless you like going very wide, that combo, with a little cropping, would likely cover 90% of street and casual shooting.

Have fun!

Not really a Fair comparison. How do you find it compares to O25 1.8?

Still think you’d need the 45. That’s a big gap between 25 and 75.

I know, probably shouldnt have mentioned it too ;-)

I have to be honest, I don’t own that lens, I also haven’t shot the O25/1.8 in quite some time so I would not be able to give a qualified opinion between the two. I’ve read some reviews on both and I read all the pros and cons of both. For me price was the main determining factor as it was with my P42.5/1.7 over the O45/1.8. I think I would likely be happy with the O251.8 if I could have picked it up for what I pains for the Pany version.

I am planning on going out on Wednesday and doing some street shooting (albeit it’s not the best weather for it), if I can i’ll try and get some shots posted so you can see how it fairs.

Not used the Panny 25 1.7 So would be interested to see what you think real world shooting.

I personally suggest to just buy one lens, the 45mm f1.8. And, if you feel that the 17mm f1.8 that comes with the PEN-F is too tight, get the 12mm f2.
That's exactly what I did, ( the 17 was also free) and I decided that I didn't need the 12.
And then you can get the 75 😃
I could, but I won't!
Its a great lens, but yeah, not for everyone.

I have Pen F and a two lens prime only kit around the 17/1.8 for me would be:

Olympus 12/2

Panasonic 25/1.4

The 25/1.4 is my favorite of all these.

Hello,

I know that the topic might have already been covered but, I cannot find it.

I am buying a PEN-F with Oly. 17/1.8 attached (the lens is free).

I intend to buy only 2 lenses for this system, as I am primarily a Sony FE FF owner with lots of lenses (I know is a different forum - don't shoot me).

I want this Pen to carry with me on daily basis and during holidays (I have 2 small but very athletic children, who are constantly running along) - so I want to stay as light as possible.

As I hate zooms (I don't use/own any), please advise me on 2 lenses - I am thinking one in the 10-15 mm range and the other in the 30-45 mm range (MFT mm, not FF equiv.). So, basically I am thinking for one moderate-wide lens for architecture, city, landscape... and one for normal-portrait use.

Budget wise - I don't have an issue with prices, as long as the lenses are relatively small and light. I don't want lenses bigger than my Sony FE FF lenses :), otherwise, I would stick with Sony system.

Thanks a lot in advance !
Too bad you hate zooms. I would have recommended the Olympus 12-40 2.8 Pro. My most used lens on my Pen F. Gives you the wide of 12mm and the 40mm for portrait, f/2.8 across the board, and "prime sharp". Keep the 17, 1.8 for lower light, and a small street lens.

I have a good opportunity to buy a 75/1.8 new (sealed) with 525 EUR. Would it make sense to add the 75 instead of 45?

Get both. :-)

I'd jump at the 75mm for that price.

There were "portrait" bundles with both the 45mm and 75mm at one point, for a decent price.

I'd be more inclined to get the Panasonic 42.5mm f1.7 instead of the Oly 45m f1.8.

I agree, get both.

The 75mm is stellar by just about any measure, and if you're partial to portraiture or just the 135mm equivalent (this is slightly longer), then this might be the best you can get on m4/3. However, it's also far too long to be used in most indoor situations. The 45mm is more versatile, and much smaller/lighter. I'd call the 45/1.8 "small," and I'd call the 75/1.8 "midsize." Not big, but definitely dense.

You have all the lenses you ever need. The one that came with the camera.

the answer is no, the 75 will not replace the 45

what you can do is get the 75, if you like the deal and wait for your finances to settle and get the 45.

the 75mm from oly is highly rated ,so I would not tell you to not get it, but it will not be the same as a 45mm.
