Do both cards meet the requirements for that?

I believe they do. The Manual says SDHC/SDXC (SD speed class 10 ) is required.

The Lexar card is the one I use and no problem there.

Have you checked how you have it set to which card. For example I record photos to slot ! and video to slot 2. I have a 64gb card in slot 1 and a 128gb card in slot 2.

Try the cards in different slots.

card should be a UHS-1 like this one

SANDISK SDXC-Card 64GB Extreme Pro V30 UHS-1 (95MB/s) (Class 10)

Where in the menu do set which slot is used for video and stills.
I set Slot 2 to REC for each of the cards.Attempts to record then stops with same message.

I don't have a clue, ANY SUGGESTIONS
Did you try to "Recover Data"?

Recording video requires a specific (and industry standard) directory structure on the SD card. That structure is created only when the card is formatted by the camera.

"Recover Data" is the camera's way of asking "Can I create my required directories?" Don't ask me why it's worded that way.

Unless you are planning slow motion. Use 1080p@ 24 or 60fos

what format is that exactly ?
What he's saying is under your 'Settings' in your OP you list your video frame rate as 120p 60m. That's 120 frames per second at a bit rate of 60 Mbps, which would be for recording video in slow motion. For normal recording one would use 24p, 30p or 60p at 50Mbps.

However I don't think that's related to the issue you're having and don't believe that is what tqlla is implying., Your U1/ Class 10 SDXC cards can handle the 50M and 60M bit rates, so I'm not sure what's causing the problem you are having.

I just got off the phone with Sony Support.

After awhile the tech guy had me Use the Lexar Card in File formats MP4 and XAVC S HD And lowered the Record Setting to 60p 50M and I was able to Record in each format. I just tried to record in 4K and 60p and 50M and I was not able to record . He seems to think it is the card.

Playback

MP4 Recordings I can Playback in Camera

XAVC s HD I CAN'T PLayback----- SYSTEM ERROR ??

Any Thoughts

Maybe a redundant question but are both cards known good ones? As in purchased from a known good source and not possible ebay knockoffs with lower spec?

Is there an easy test? Not just for if it is mis-labeled, but to test the data transfer speed?

I know the knockoffs are prevalent and getting harder to spot.

No idea really, all I know is that I started my A77's life with a cheapo SDHC 10 card from a local grocery store and later updated to a "proper" SDHC 10 Sony card...the write speed to clear the buffer halved so there's clearly a big difference in write speed even if the cards are classed the same.

Class only states it's minimum R/W speeds. Within class 10 there's a sheer variety of R/W speeds. Unless the specs are stated explicitly on the package there's no garanty and even then..........

Lots of fake SD card's around :-(
