Hello people,

My new SD1M has a peculiar problem. Every time I recharge my battery (between 3 and 4 hours) and I put the recharged battery back into the SD, the camera lost its date preferences. Not the language, that stays in the chosen language.

Now, the manual reads as follows:

The camera’s internal clock is powered by a capacitor that receives its charge from the camera’s battery. If the camera is left without a battery for an extended period of time, such as after prolonged storage, the internal clock will need to be reset.

This is very strange, because I see 'an extended period of time' not as a few hours. Any experiences on this, or tips?

TIA and greetings,

Herman

Can be worse: I had an SD14 where 'an extended period of time' was about half a second. :-( In other words, take out it's fully-charged battery, then put it back in immediately . . date and time gone!

Your capacitor has lost some capacity. This can happen to any capacitor but I'll guess that the one that powers the clock chip is of the 'high charge' type (i.e. Farads, not micro-Farads), and potentially less reliable than normal type.

Some folks keep a spare battery on hand so that the changeover is quick and the date/time is not lost.

Haha, you made laugh!

Well then, I’ll be buying some spare... do you happen to know if one can replace these by 2300 mAh lithium-ion versions? Bound to have a little more juice in them...

Yes, batteries for Minolta NP-400 or Pentax D-Li50.

Some don't go all the way down in the SD1M A slot on contact side has to be lengthened a bit.
Bound to have a little more juice in them...

Im Anfang gab es nur das Wort
Herman,

Not with my SD1M but it does happen with my SD15. I put a spare battery in while the batteries are charging.

Scottelly wrote: Try charging your battery today, but put it on charge as soon as you take it out of your camera. As soon as the battery is charged . . . half an hour after you put it on charge maybe, take it off the charger and put it back in the camera. If the camera's clock reset in that amount of time I would say there is a problem, and you should contact Sigma to let them know the issue you're having.
I've had the "lost time/date" with my SD1M but just accept it. Same for my older Kodak DCS14n. Take out the battery in either - and immediately, if not sooner, date needs resetting in the DCS but will be OK in the SD1M IF a replacement charged battery is put in within about 5 minutes. As it does not otherwise affect anything and simple to reset - I decided early on to just let sleeping dawgs lie.

There are far more important things in life, my son - like vino plonko, good food, etc. etc. etc. ;-)

Well then.

I tried some out:

5 minutes=okay

15 minutes=okay

30 minutes=okay

55 minutes=okay

To-morrow, I am gonna try more and longer hours.

For now, it seems that the capitator is functioning at least for these times.

keep you posted.
