Hi all,

as promised yesterday, here are the black and white portraits with Masha. On the other thread I forgot to activate the Comment&Critique flag, actually comment and critique is always much welcome and the reason why I like to post my pictures here.

Hey..

Very nice.. personally i'd have less contrast in the image.. Either by taking down the higher tones a little bit, or lifting up the shadows to meet the high tones ... In any case creating a slightly flatter image.. I'd have opted for the first solution (taking down the high tones) in order to get more of the skin texture - that'd be nice..

other than that.. very nice..

I like these better than the "painting" look photo's. And thank you, thank you for using the right focal length and aperture for portraits. The perspective is excellent as are the poses, etc.

Now, I like a soft photo for a woman but I think these are a bit too soft for her. She is young and has excellent skin. You could afford to have these a bit sharper. Did you process these to make them this soft?

I would like to see these with a bit more contrast and a stronger lighting ratio.

Can you re-post them that way for our consideration?

Ciao,

Tedolpho

The second is my favorite in this set. The shapes of her face with the shadows below are very nice. Love the way the light plays on a diagonal across her face and her hair runs straight down the side of the frame. Really like the lines and tones. You showcase the beauty of your model well.

I am not typically a fan of cropped hands so am less enamored of the first. I find her expression and pose in #3 to be somewhat contrived as if she is trying to be alluring. I think that quality comes across effortlessly in #2. I do not like the black border of her top in the last. I think the shadows should frame her face rather than trailing away. Her fingers are also cropped. I do like the openness of her face in this picture. I think her hair is in between: could be wilder or more carefully coiffed as in the others.

I would like to see one of these in color. Probably brilliant eye color, lovely skin tones, and a feeling of her vitality and warmth. Black and white can seem cold particularly in the portraits of young people in my opinion.

Hi Henrik,

Thank you for your feedback! I actually like the contrasty look, but here is one of the pictures before applying curves to increase contrast. What do you think?

Thanks!

Thanks for the link! Those are excellent and I particularly like the last in that set. I look forward to your next thread.

Very nice set, well done.

I like the pose in #2 and her expression in #4 - probably because I can see better her eyes.

Can you please share the method for B&W conversion?

Thanks! I shoot using the monochrome setting in camera and applied the same profile in Lr.

all with cut head and tedolf likes it :) i never thought i will see this

and agree with all, that retro look without a single retro prop - it's just great
