Hi,

Just curious what everyone's thoughts are on the E-m1.2 DCI 4k video mode. Are you taking videos? Have you seen anything on youtube that's impressed you? (i've looked, but haven't seen much)?

I know Olympus focuses on stills, but now with Panasonic releasing the G9 & GH5, they seem to be giving Olympus a run for it's money.

I remember reading somewhere that the Olympus developers are absolutely capable of adding v-log to the Em1.2, but just haven't, as well as added customization for movie mode.

For their current flagship camera, do you think they will add these videocentric extras in firmware, in order to make the most of their "best" camera on the market? I really cannot understand why they wouldn't...especially since they keep releasing these PRO lenses that I am assuming pretty much only pair with the Em1.2...

Speaking of firmware...Christmas is coming!

Have you tried looking at vimeo? There's quite a few vids on there. FWIW, I've been using it and for me as a non pro that dabbles in only a bit of video, the IS is quite stunning and makes it a lot easier for me to get a good video quality - and that's probably the thing, steady video regardless of the res, tends to look way better than unstabilised high res video. Definitely more than enough for my needs.

I've been taking video with my E-M! MkII and love the quality, but I only shoot 1080p as 4K is simply not worth the effort and cost, aka new PC, when I have more important video accessories to buy.

Major FW update probably closer to/after E-M5 III release.

Cheers.

I've used mine for 4k but more so in 1080, where it performs well with the stabilization. I have used it mostly with the 40-150 and 300 Pro lenses, handheld, for video.

Autofocus is better on other camera bodies, but I find it still quite suitable if the subject isn't moving too much. I leave the video setting in picture mode, which is a little flatter than the standard mode. The standard profile will blow out the hightlights in direct sunlight for video unless you underexpose and fix in post.

For 1080, an E-M5ii is pretty good in video mode. I usually have both with me, with a 12-40 on the E-M5ii and a long lens on the E-M1ii, and switch between pro capture stills and 1080 video on the E-M1ii. But all I shoot is dog park personal stuff and grandkids, and am very happy with the results.
