Hi Everyone,

I just sent my E-M1.2 in for repair (Canada) - I sent it in the first time but they apparently didn't find anything wrong with it and sent back. Still waiting for news.

While I'm waiting I thought I would ask to see if anyone had a similar problem:

the problem is that whenever I manually focus and use focus peaking the camera lags and then resets itself (black screen, then resets, and all previous changed settings canceled to 5 minutes earlier). It seems to not have the horse power. As well, it started saying "Olympus batt. recommended" when starting up the camera, even though I was using the Oly battery it came with. Also I cannot access battery settings on menu.

I got a new battery (sent to me for free from Olympus... I do appreciate it, thank you!), but unfortunately it didn't fix the problem.

Just curious if any one here had a similar problem? I looked it up online, but it seems no one else had a similar problem.

Thanks for reading!

It may be some other setting that conflicts with the focus peaking if this is the only thing that causes the problem. I don't use focus peaking, so I would not have noticed a problem.

Did they do a full reset of the camera before they returned it (your settings would have all been cleared)?

If not, I would suggest you note all your settings, then do a full reset of the camera and then before you set anything else, try the manual focus with peaking and see if the problem recurs. If not, then add settings and check again to see if it works.

Thanks for your reply: but unfortunately yes, I have done a factory reset and so did they. Unfortunately not a settings problem.

I am just hoping at the moment it is not a glaring problem, one in which if they return it back to me somewhat fixed, it might happen again at a later date. I suppose I should probably be wise and buy the extended warranty once it is returned to me.

Thanks again,

Thanks again,
Cameras and lenses are the two things for which I buy extended warranties. I know that I use my equipment far more than the "average" user, so I know it is more likely to need service.
