Some photos from East Scotland with E-M1 and LX100

Eish. Makes me homesick! (Ex-pat Scot living in Africa the last 23 years). Very nice pictures indeed. No 177 on your Zenfolio allows me to see the roofs of my old school.
So, you're an Edinburgh lad then.
Lovely to see these on a hot and sticky Zambian evening at 36 degrees centigrade! Thanks for posting. Looks like you enjoyed a few whisky locations too!
On this trip, we visited Dalwhinnie and Glenfarclas (and enjoyed one or two drams in other locations too).

Two years ago, while travelling along the west coast, the distilleries we visited were Oban and the relatively new one on Isle of Arran.

Nice pictures laddie, but you might add a legend describing what you shot. From the looks of it, you seem to appreciate a wee dram of the spirit from time to time - or was the distillery shot only based on aesthetics?

So you noticed that also? Just goes to show how auto-focus goes a long way after a distillery visit...

Amen to that!! ;-)

My son and I have visited 11 distilleries in two trips to Scotland. On our first trip we concentrated on distilleries in Speyside. On our last trip we concentrated on the distilleries in Islay and some in the Highlands.
I've never been to Islay nor the upper Highlands.
After our trip to Scotland we went to London and visited the whisky bar at Milroy's of Soho. In fact we made two visits. ;-) (Milroy's is sort of an institution for Scotch lovers.)
Never been there either. Maybe I should.
We keep spread sheets on the Scotches that we have tried. I am up to 396 different Scotches. My son has had more than 500. I will never catch up. :-(
Neither will I.

I have not kept count, but I have probably tried something like between 80 and 120 different varieties. This is just a really wild guess. Or maybe just a bit more, if we start counting cask finishes, different maturing ages, and all that. Only of a few distilleries have I tasted roughly a handful of different bottlings.
Love the pictures!

(You probably already know this.) If you want to maximize your time go to the Speyside region which is an area on the River Spey in the northeast of Scotland. The various distilleries in that region are relatively close to each other. You can pack in several distilleries in a day. (My son and I hired a driver.)
We did spend just a bit of time in the Speyside, driving up from Kingussie towards Banff and the Fraserburgh. Passed by quite a few distilleries.
Passed by? Never a stop for a wee dram? Laddie, yer missing the point...
Be sure and visit Edradour distillery! It is not in Speyside but it is a quaint little distillery not too far north of Edinburgh. Your photography skills would do Edradour proud.

Wow beautiful! Where were the puffins and what time of the year?

We drove past a few because really, how would one ever get from Kingussie to Banff in a single day if dram sampling is due in every distillery along the way.

We took a bit more time at Dalwhinnie, Glenfarclas (my favourite, if not in scenic value then in whisky) and Strathisla.

The Glenfarclas cask strength is a gem.

They also had a bottle of my birth year, but that was just a tad out of my wallet range.

Fiddling with the dioptric knob on the eyepiece also helps...

Nice pictures. The ones coming from the LX-100 look plenty sharp despite the fact that the camera is a compact-zoom type.

I never hesitate to use my LX100 as second camera when out shooting and I want quick access to a broader focal length range than one PRO lens can provide.

Never had any complaints about LX100 photos being added to the mix of a series.

Roel, I just watched your portfolio. Wow just incredible. Appealing on so many levels.
Thank you.
You must have had very indulgent hiking partners!
Well, actually they just hike the hike. I seldom ask them to pose (only for group portraits) and I never ask them to slow down or speed up or do a little stretch of hiking again.

It's only me that covers the extra miles, but running in front of them to get them against background with telephoto compression or who lags behind for the same purpose. And then I catch up again and play another game of cat and mouse.
Each image shows considerable thought in your composition and the various angles you shot.
Thanks.
I guess the was a spring trip; having never been there-I'm amazed at the variety of conditions you shot under. The images are just beautiful. Thank you for posting. Very inspirational.
Thank you again. Yes this was spring : last week of April.

The general itinerary is included in the gallery.

If there is a specific location you would like the name of, I will try to oblige.

And whisky, yes, we enjoy that (with some moderation and some of our group more than others...)
