... this lens will work with the FT-1? 270-1080mm equivalent in a relatively compact, lightweight package. With my renewed interest in APS-C as well as N1 this could be used on both.

As lenses go $800 list is not a lot for a 100-400mm lens.

It *might* work - but I wouldn't hold my breath. I've been unlucky with most Tamron lenses and the FT-1. However, the 70-300 VC did work when I tried it awhile back, and the new Nikkor P lenses with electromagnetic apertures also seem to work well. (Although another way of looking at it is there's more to go wrong - a little pessimistic, I know!)

Anyway, an enclosed tripod mount would bring the cost up, and there seems to be a magic threshold of $800 $US in the consumer market. This lens is lacking the "SP" designation, even though the marketing team is touting the superlative optical qualities of this lens. I'm waiting for real results, first.
