None of the remotes sold for Nikon cameras say there is a mode to start movie recording. My Canon remote has a slide switch on the back that will either focus and take a picture or when you slide to the other position, it will start recording a movie. All I have to do is change one drive mode setting in the camera as well. Anyway, is there an equivalent one for the Nikon D500? Thanks! Bill

Maybe you want to try the tip in this link: "How To Use A Remote Shutter Release to Start and Stop Video Recording on Your Nikon Camera ":

In short, in g1, "Movie custom control assignment", set the Shutter Release Button to "Record Movies" instead of "Take Photos". From now on, in Movie mode, any press of the local or remote shutter button will start a movie.

Google is your friend ...

With my Canon remote, it's a two step process - you first use the focus/trip shutter button so the camera will focus before the movie starts. You then slide the switch to start the recording. Will the Nikon remote, will it pre-focus the movie? Bill

I many times use my phone as remote display and controller and it works for movies also.

Can you tell me how you do this? Thanks, Bill

Did you follow the link I gave in my previous response? He explains the process for a certain brand of remote, but it is fairly generic for any remote ...

Yes I did, but if you read the previous post, you will see it was about using his phone as a remote. Bill

Ooops, sorry. If you set g1 to start recording movies via the shutter button, anything that activates the shutter button will do. If you do get Snapbridge to work, that will work too. I am not sure that other phone apps will work, as the D500 Wi-Fi implementation is non-standard :-(

Hi Bill,

I use an app called dslrDashboard both on my phones and Ipad.

With D500 and wireless,

1: Turn mobile/cellular data off on your phone

2: Connect your phone/pad to d500 through snap bridge app.

3: Once connected Launch dslr dashboard and hit the nikon button and it should connect.

Apart from live tethering , it also allows me to selectively import raw images on my phone or iPad, develop and edit using various software etc.

Remember to turn off the mobile data, as the IP address needs to be resolved to the D500.

I have snapbridge working but the DSLR dashboard app doesn't show up in the iOS App Store on my phone. What additional functionality does it give you? Bill
