This might be old news to some but today I learned something new about my old Epson 1400. I resurrected the 1400 after a period of dormancy and set it up on a Windows 10 machine. Got good nozzle checks and thought everything was good to go.

The printer would start printing normally and then at the 3/4 mark it would stop and spit out the paper. These were letter sized sheets. Smaller prints caused no problems, so I figured it was a spooling problem.

I tried to search the forum for answers with no luck so I used the built-in Windows troubleshooter to see if I could get a clue. Sure enough, It told me that since the printer is older hardware and I had it connected to USB 3, it might not be able to handle the faster data of USB 3. It suggested I connect it to a USB 2 port.

That solved the problem. Windows might be smarter than I thought .;-)

Just gone along the same path 1400 giving some problems ( blurring of some parts of text followed by both red light flashing together. Got the 1500 w last week great update )

1400 has been great on a continuous ink system

I intend to use refillables while the 1500w is on warranty

Best wishes

Peter

Or stupider. :-)

It's great that you arrived at a solution but it's crazy that the problem ever existed. Full backward compatibility with USB 2 is an essential part of the USB 3 spec. So either the PC manufacturer messed up big time, or Microsoft did. I'd bet that this is a bug in the motherboard's BIOS, and hopefully an update to the latest version would fix it.
