A fine looking stag. I would be tempted to reduce contrast in the background as it adds depth and makes the stag pop out more.

Makes me think of our beloved cat - who passed away earlier this year. Brings back many nice thoughts.
...Oh, I feel sorry for you...What a beautiful cat, that your Killer....My cat is now 12 years old, she has always been healthy. But now I wonder pretty often how many years she still has left... How old was your cat?
Killer - RIP
Killer - RIP

Taken with Canon FD 100/2.8, original 'chrome nose' version, a 45 year old lens!
And I can see, still going strong. Some old Canon FD lenses are really good on modern digital sensor too. I like my Canon FD 35/2 with A7RII.
He really was a sweet guy, just looks mad here because I was pointing a camera at him.
I know, my cat is not a camera fan either ;-)
Oh, and my teenage daughter named him.
We took our cat when our kids were 5 and 6 years old, now they are 17 & 18, almost adults. Time goes by so fast, and our cat has lived through all these years, seen a lot. I think that cats are very spiritual beings - understand more than we people think. They can't talk, but sometimes I think my cat tries to talk to me, some important thoughts.... :-)

Happy shootings,

Ari

Thanks for your kind words and sorry for hijacking your thread. My oldest daughter got him when he was maybe 6 months old, shortly after she moved out for the first time. Five years later, she moved home with him and another cat, stayed for a year, then moved out again, leaving her two cats with us. We had him for about 10 years. So he was 15 or 16. He had a large tumor in his bladder, probably cancer. The vet said this is common in dogs, but rare in cats.

He was very dog-like. He would come when I called him. If he was doing something I didn't like, I could tell him "No Killer" and he would stop. He liked to sit on my lap or next to me when I watched TV.

As to the lens and photo, I think it has some nice 'pop'. Those oldest FD lenses don't have very good coatings. The color is not as nice as a modern lens, but a few tweaks in post and they can be quite nice, as long as you aren't shooting into the sun!

I've always wanted to do a western/cowboy themed shoot...

one light setup: 1 Flashpoint Evolv 200 (Godox AD200) with large stripbox with grid, camera right

Took the 50mm macro for a spin: total bummer how slow the AF/MF is and how badly it hunts even in perfect lighting conditions. If the lens was built like the 90mm macro this would've had a place as a normal prime in my travel kit. Alas, despite really nice IQ I can't see this lens being useful for anything other than still life for someone with a LOT of patience. Still considering if it's worth keeping it despite the $340 price tag on a new one through Target.

I hate sunrise and sunset images. They are so kitschy.

Good series.

Very good photos.

Nice.

Lovely.

We got a very late start to our overnight snowshoe trip up the White River canyon on the east side of Mt Hood, not starting until after sunset. This was fine with me because I was hoping for clear skies for the 20% moon which rose about 2:50 am, plus that side of the mountain is best with the morning light. We hiked in about two miles and camped at the viewpoint at the top of the canyon. The weather was perfect, clear skies, calm winds, only dropped down to freezing and a fresh layer of snow on the ground. The only problem was that the groomers at the Timberline ski area came out right when the moon rose, causing light pollution in my shots. Oh well, what can you do but wait for them to move where the light doesn't interfere with your shot too bad.

Quick shot from the parking lot as we were heading out. We use good headlamps and the trail is pretty easy to follow.

Pre-moon picture. We set up camp, and made hot chocolate with Kahlua in it. (Winter is spiked hot chocolate, summer is beer as our treat for making camp.)

As soon as the moon began to illuminate Mt Hood, the groomers came out grooming the Palmer Glacier ski run.

Finally the moon lit up the entire scene and the groomer was blocked somewhat by the tree.

My favorite time of the day on the east side of Mt Hood with the early morning sun lighting the top of Mt Hood.

Another favorite snow shot of mine is when the sun is just making it appearance and it colors the snow when back lit.
