Hi all,

Just received a used Tamron 70-200mm. It was described as only being used twice and it does look like new.

oon as I connected it to my D7200 it would not auto foces. I then read that camera setting sometimes need change. I turned on auto focus assist / shutter or something like that and now all good.

What I don't get is this setting was needed for all other lenses. So now I don't know whether the lenses autofocus is faulty and now being assisted by the camera auto focus system?

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

I have this lens with the Sony A-mount option, and there is absolutely no difference in how it focuses as compared to my other lenses.

By the way, this lens is really good.

Hi thanks for your response. So I guess I need to find out wether having changed or turning on a setting on my camera might suggest an issue?

Disregard everybody! user error. Silly me forgot I had the back button focus on lol.

My goodness! I can sleep better tonight. While I'm at it this lens focuses fast and it's quiet as well.

Thanks

Hi all.

Got a new Tamron 70-200 f2.8 DI VC. i am using it with Rebel T1i (500D). This is the first time i've bought any lens above $400 :) so maybe my expectations from this are exceptional. Below is the 100% Crop of the shot at 200mm/F2.8 and 1/125 shutter speed. Not sure if you'd call this sharp or blurry. But, i have no idea on what to expect and hence posting this for any suggestions, verdict.

I'll be grateful for your feedback. Since i've spent this much money after mulling for few months, I wanted to ensure i have spent it the right away.

The blurriness you see here is camera shake. I ran this through Photoshop Shake reduction and got this. Be aware that using shake reduction on the original would be even better.

Thanks Jim. So, would you be able to advice if the lens is ok :). what I'll do is maybe post some recent pics which i took in its original size. Hopefully that would give your or others to advise if the Lens is doing ok. I've heard a lot of people complain about this Tamron 70-200 and some extra calibration etc required to get it to focus well or in some cases even ask for a replacement copy. So, wanted to be sure if my copy of the lens is good.

I have absolutely no problems with this lens. The one and only thing is that it is big and heavy. But it focuses right on, focuses quickly and I just have nothing to complain about.

To show how good this lens is, I am attaching a shot taken with a crop sensor camera using the Tamron 70-200mm lens at 90mm for 58 sec. Used f2.8 and ISO 800. Stacked 4 images in DSS.

Now understand that stars are about the most demanding of objects to photograph. Most lenses will display various forms of distortion and not show round stars. This lens is doing a good job at displaying the stars. I did use tracking. This one is taken using the iOptron SkyTracker.

This image is Deneb (bright star in the center) and the North American Nebula to the left.

Indeed! Took a few shots last night of my sneakers in my home with ISO 1600 can't remember shutter speed and the sharpness is brilliant. Heavy but the lens feels like it performs great so far. Obviously will have to wait till I shoot in the field. Got a fashion shoot coming up soon and I'll be using it on my new d610 that's arriving soon as well. I'm expecting to be impressed!
