GH5 Display Button question

Is there any way this can be turned off?

It's right under my thumb when using the camera [esp the rear dial] and I'm forever pressing it inadvertently, losing the display. It doesn't seem to be in the set f buttons that can be customised [to the 'off' option].

Does anyone know a solution, other than sticking something over it?

Thanks,

William

Solution
I also suffer from the same problem.

It's incredibly irritating.

Youtuber Casey Niestat also mentioned this problem. He taped it up.

I hope Panasonic releases a firmware to deal with this design flaw.
With V 2.0 firmware, Panasonic added the ability to lock the display button.

do the following:

Custom Settings

-Operation

-- Operation Lock settings

---Enable Display Lock On (Take off whatever you don't want to be locked here)

----Go To FN Button Set

-----Set a Custom FN button to "Operation Lock"

This will enable you to lock out the Display button from accidentally pressing it, along with whatever is assigned in the "Operation Lock Settings menu"

Solution
I never hit the Display button but am always hitting the rear scroll wheel just above the display button that changes the ISO, if I could lock that bad boy out, would take away my only complaint with the GH5.

i have to admit i laughed at those complaining about inadvertently hitting the /disp/ button when i got my gh5 and saw that it was flush, if not a little inset, into the back panel.

but nearly immediately i started accidentally changing the display and it drives me crazy because quite often i can't hit it on purpose.

so i was happy to see the /disp/ lock in the changelog for v2.0 but when i followed the instructions it didn't lock it out. i spent like 30 minutes trying to figure out what i was missing and gave up.

then i saw the thread someone posted above and there they said that it's not simple at all--you have to do 3 things: 1) set the /disp/ to /lock/. then you have to assign a function key to some subset of the /operations lock/. then, when you want to lock it you have to hit the /function/ key.

what a f_____g mess! who was drunk when they came up with this? if i want it locked 98% of the time i lose a function key and what's to keep me from hitting the function key by mistake?

what's wrong with what panasonic themselves have done with previous models and provided a screen with checkboxes for which display screens you want to cycle through? that would be the ultimate in flexibility and that menu item could be assigned to a function key or the quick menu for those who need to toggle certain screens on and off on the fly.

can you say: 'asleep at the wheel'? yeah, sad.

What they should have done, IMHO, is to make the "Disp" button assignable like all the other buttons, and included a "do nothing" assignment. That way it would be super easy to deal with: do a long press and assign the button to "do nothing" to disable it, and then do another long press and assign the button to "Disp" to restore normal function for when you want to change the display mode. If "Do nothing" and "Disp" were next to each other on the list of button assignments then this would be really fast and simple to use.

indeed--that would work too! and be especially nice if they still had the checkboxes so you could hide the screens you never wanted to see completely.

hope panny is listening ....

Thanks, everyone.

After making my original post, I installed v2 and saw the think about operation lock in the release notes, but it didn't work. The additional steps described above have solved the problem.

But what a palaver! Their programmers and/or their domain experts must be really rubbish! It should be so simple to achieve with one menu setting!
