How well does the M5 perform in servo AF with tracking moving objects? Not BIF but runners, soccer, bikes and perhaps airshows. Would be using 18-135mm stm, 70-200 f4 L, and maybe 100-400mm vers 1. Is servo AF with center focus point the best or is there some tracking and focus mode that would be better. I found the indepth online manual to be less than helpful in explaining the options, especially for moving subjects. Thanks.

I'd still plan to keep your 70D for shooting action. I love my M5 for everything else, but the DSLR's PDAF is tons better for sports and birds IME.

Just try it few days ago on local relly with 70-200 f4 IS and it works almost perfect = 95% picture was in focus and car was in 80% of shoots going toward me or from me ..

I have put it in "L-tracking" ( I think it is a face recognition mode ) and 7fps, I used touch and drag to found car and than tracking made a little box that followed car, when you get use to it - it works like charm ;)

the M5 AF tracking is good, I use it for field sports like lacrosse, surfing, boat racing, etc. on an old original Canon 100-400 v1

Thanks. What are your settings? Servo Af and center focus or the track/face detect and hopefully camera can pick out subject and follow and focus. Servo AF is my only option with 70d. Camcorder will track and focus fairly well.

settings? servo AF and (depending on the subject) focus point in the center. On all the latest cameras you can use the touchscreen to change the AF focus point

Seems like 2 options to try. First. Servo AF and keep focus point over the target. The method I have used with slr cameras. Second. Face/track AF and select target and see if focus point follow and focus on the target. My camcorder uses this method when selected.
