Nice price.
The lowest price for the kit in Germany is 999 Euro. That about 690 GBP.

The price quoted for camera-x-change includes VAT. This may not be the case with the price quoted from German on-line store, typically you still have to add VAT (16% instead of 17.5 I think) and you may also have to add a 3% credit card surcharge, if that's how you are paying. Then you have your flight and ancillary costs...
IMO any UK deal for the Kit at sub £850 Inc VAT will probably compare favourably with any other given local company / UK delaership etc...

I even found a german online store that sells the camera (+lens) for 945€ incl. VAT:

I'm don't think that price includes the lens.
The german for lens is objektiv - they're selling the lens kit for €1049 - £740
It's getting closer to the point of making importing a US kit not worth the difference...
Any advances on 1049?

I think the "+ Objektiv" means another lens than the EF S one. At least on the picture of this offer is shown another (additional) lens than the one that is normally deliverd with the 300D kit.
And the picture of the 945€ offer shows the camera with the EF S lens, not just the body.
Under the pictures stands "Abbildung kann abweichen" ("Picture can differ") so all of the above points I made can be wrong. On the other hand in the description of the 300D stands "Schon ab September wird die Canon EOS 300 D mit dem neuen EF-S Objektiv 18-55 mm lieferbar sein." ("Already in September the Canon EOS 300 D with the new EF-S lens 18-55mm can be deliverd").
The only thing I miss (and would clear up this situation) is an offer for the body only (or it is the 945€ one?). I can't find one on their website.
I think with these rough information the online store gives you shouldn't order the camera there (though it may be cheaper than somewhere else).
Finally you could be right... I searched for some more online stores and I found a 949€ offer, but without the lens.
