Who will be the D850 beta testers?

With all the info out so far, it is impressive. I would have bought one if I needed one.

I am yet to make best use of my D7200. May be, later

Let us know how it works out for ya :D Personally, I would never buy a new released product no matter how good it may seem.
Thanks for the input. Envy can be an ugly trait.

I have one on order - hope to get it in 2-4 weeks, I will have a D800e, D750 and a Tamron 120-600 G1 for sale a week or so after that....can't wait....

No! Between a D800E/D500 and Fuji X-T2 I am covered for a while.

I typically feel exactly the same way. I decided to roll the dice this time. I guess mostly because I have a trip to Sequoia planned and I just couldn't resist the opportunity.

Nah. Reasonable. We're paying probably $300 more than people who wait just a few months. And given Nikon's track record lately we're probably facing a recall or two or even a D860 instead (see: D610). It's a dice roll.

But if you'd gotten a D600 or D750...

(actually I never had the D750 issue even though mine is eligible for the recall - and I guess I'll have to send it in now that I'm going to be selling it for a D850).

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. that said Nikon cant afford a lemon. Let's say after the D610 and D750 issues small or large it is just a PIA

I tend to agree lets see what happens 6 months to a year later.

That said I will be a Beta tester upgrading from the D750. I will add I have two D750's and plan on selling one and keeping one for the short term. I will sell the D750 most likely the second body and upgrade to the D780 whatever perhaps as a second body.

I did all I can to get the lenses I need and I know I will be constantly upgrading bodies before they get discontinued

How are your investments doing? Pessimists and the risk-averse rarely benefit from the best opportunities.

Early adopters are not beta testers. I've been an early adopter of many Nikon products: D3, D300, D3s, D4, D800E, D500, D5. No regrets with any of them.

The only reason why I'm not on a D850 order list, is that I want to wait and see if Nikon will produce a D850A, which I would greatly prefer. But if it doesn't show up by next summer, I will go ahead and pick up a D850, as I'm sure it will still be a great astro camera.

Hi Marianne,

I'm interested to know why you would prefer a D850 over a D810A. Stacking perhaps?

Kindest regards,

Hi Marianne,

Kindest regards,
I've been spoiled by my Canon 60Da, which is properly equipped, i.e., it has an articulating LCD that doesn't require me to perform yoga moves in order to focus and frame in Live View.

I refuse to spend money on a D810A, which would be a step backwards in usability due to its fixed LCD. I think Nikon would have been wiser to create a D750A instead.

How do you figure that? The D850 is not going to drop $300 by December. My D800 was part of the first batch back in 2012, it has always been trouble free, and the price did not drop $300 a few months after it was released.

I want to move to the D850, but the lack of a pop-up flash is holding me back. Yes, I own a few shoe mounted flashes and I know they are MUCH better. The problem is I've found myself needing some fill flash out in the field numerous times when I wasn't carrying a small speedlight. I don't want to be forced to always carry a flash even though I have a very small SB-400.
