I recently picked up an X-T2 with 18-55, 23 & 50 f2. Love the camera and especially those primes! I'd also really like a compact camera as an everyday carry. As such, I'm thinking of ditching the 18-55 and getting an X70 to cover that 18mm focal length. I'm already happy with the jump from 23 to 50. Plus it would be one less lens change.

But....do people think that the X70 will get an update soon? Would they give that the 24mp sensor? Could they at this price range?

Don't really want to wait months for something that may not come, but also don't want to buy and X70 to find out something new is coming very soon.

It's no different to releasing the XE3 and having a "half-size, half price" X-Pro2 on the market, just like the XE1 and XE2 both were to the X-Pro1 back in the day.

In all these cases it comes down to EVF only, versus the hybrid finder of the more expensive model. The hybrid optical finder means nothing to some people, but everything to others.
I assume you meant XA, not XE.
Nope, I'm talking about the XE series. They are to the X-Pro line exactly what an EVF-equipped X70 would be to the X100x.
No, it would make it a 28mm X100. In line with the X100 series.
Nope. Having an EVF is not the same as having a hybrid optical viewfinder. Just like the XE having an EVF doesn't make it the same as an X-Pro, an X70 with an EVF wouldn't be the same as an X100, even if they had the same lens.
Anyway, when (let's not say "if" anymore) the X80 materializes with an eye-level viewfinder of any kind, I'll be all over it. Yes, I love the dual VF of the X100F, and I love my Ricoh GR. But an X80 with a viewfinder could make a BIG difference to me.
I still think any continuation of the X70 is subject to a big if. Today on fujirumors we have detailed pictures of the XE3 being announced next week, more talk of an XT2S with ibis apparently to be released Q1 next year, and precisely nothing whatsoever about any X80 - months after the X70 was dropped.
I hear what you are saying, but if I remember correctly, there weren't a lot of pictures of the X70 before it was released either.
There were some though :)

There were also tangible and (as it turned out) accurate leaks of the design and specs in the months prior to release, as there are for most/all fuji cameras. There's really been nothing at all on the X80 other than a fujirumors piece back in February claiming they were working on it, supposedly for release about now. We shall see..
Still, the lack of a viewfinder was the big recurring theme in criticism of the X70; if they do plan to continue with it that would be the obvious thing to address.
It's a big complaint of the Ricoh GR series too... for THOSE that don't use it. I can see arguments for both here.
The Ricoh had obviously carved out its niche before the X70 came on the scene, and attracted enough people for whom the lack of viewfinder wasn't an issue - but maybe that market just wasn't big enough for the X70 to make a dent? Of course none of us have the sales figures, I'm only guessing here..

Ah, good point. True. I didn't think of it that way even though I use all three!

Yeah, I wouldn't think the X70 was a huge seller.

I'm anxiously waiting for Sept 7 to see if there will be a successor to the X70. I would hate to see Fuji discontinue a good quality pocketable camera with a tiltable LCD and other great features making the X70 unique in the Fuji family.

The X70 cameras are still available in stores, while being discontinued, they are still selling at full original price and even more, so I have difficulty seeing this camera as a failure from the sales viewpoint.

If this is the end of the X70 line, it's over to Ricoh or possibly Sony RX100.

It was officially discontinued way back in December, so the fact that there is still nine month old stock knocking around in stores isn't necessarily a good sign!

I'm hoping for a X80 with the 24mp sensor and 4K video, don't care about an EVF I'd rather have a compact camera, and the EVF in my Panasonic GM5 is too small to be usable in my opinion.

Ricoh is overdue for a replacement for the GR II as well, but no indications from their side of whether or not it's imminent. They have launced a new GR model every other year from 2005 to 2015 (6 models in total thus far) so I'd be a bit surprised if they gave up now.

There have been various rumblings from Ricoh/Pentax over possible shifts in strategy etc or even pulling out of the camera business - perhaps the GR is a casualty. Which might make for more of an opportunity for the X80.

Could be... but the GR was always a labor of love for Ricoh (being a "cult" camera). I think Ricoh will make one more since it most likely has already been in the works. Then again, I have no idea what that company is thinking. I would imagine if the X80 comes out and Ricoh doesn't respond quickly, it could really benefit X80 sales.

I would wait til Sept. 7 when Fuji has announcements scheduled. There is some talk of an X80 being announced.
If nothing happens, an X-A1 or X-M1 with the 18/2 makes sense. The 18/2 on my XT-10 is my 'compact camera'.

I love my 18/2, but the X70 lens is far superior. I'd jump at the chance to have that with the 24MP sensor, and would make the ideal travel camera for me.

Even better would be a new XF18mm with better optical quality, but I am getting pretty bored of waiting.

... and drive in Ricoh's coffin nails. :-(

LIttle bummed there was no new 24mp X80 today, was really hoping for one.

Oh well, ordered the X70 anyway as I just need a small compact camera and refuse to give up an aperture ring.

Good choice. I think otherwise you'd be waiting a very long time ;-)

Likewise disappointed that the XF roadmap wasn't updated with a new 18mm option.

Really hope they continue this line. I'm Canon user and don't own any Fujifilm camera but this is the one I'd like to have always with me. However, I don't feel like buying almost two year old camera at full price.

Yeah, and the only other similar camera is 5 years old... Ricoh GR.

I'm tempted to buy whichever one is upgraded to a 24MP sensor first.

Now it's a good time to buy a used X70, that is what I did.

...and is discontinued, and has past the point of getting any FW feature updates that other Fuji cameras enjoy.
