I am in the process of switching over to canon because my wife shoots canon. I use Sony with a metabones adapter but we do lots of shoots together and I need a sensor that matches her 70D. (the colors between sony and canon sensors differ enough for my eye to notice.)

Im not sure which body to get. I know all of the specs of the three cameras, have shot all three, but not extensively enough to do a confident review. I shoot mostly portraits, family portraits, and the occasional wedding, but also love landscapes and astrophotography. Im keeping my sony for adventure, landscapes and astrophotography, so I will focus solely on portraits with my canon body.

How does image quality compare between the three cameras? I can get the 6D for about $1000 and the other two for around $2000. I don't care as much about features as I do about image quality, but of course features are nice.

Things I am looking for include but are not limited to:

Image quality, AF accuracy, dynamic range, resolution (20 vs 30mp, occasionally I will crop), bokeh (I assume the same results because of the FF sensors, but you never know), and any other things you awesome photographers deem fit to mention.

Thanks in advance, I love you guys to death!

IQ very similar but the 6D had a tiny edge in its day over the 5D III.

I'd suggest from your use cases that the AF of the 6D would be sufficient and now would be the right time to buy it.

You'll have to be more careful with the Canon sensors and exposing absolutely correctly than with the Sony. If you wanted a stop of insurance you could go 5D IV but that would be much more expensive.

You say 5Diii, for what reasons? Have you used a 6D or do you just love your mk iii to death?

Is the $1000 difference worth it? I am thinking of waiting until black friday to see what kind of deals I can get, though I just dont know if I can justify the extra $1000, even though I also love the 5diii...

5DIII. You mentioned occasional weddings. Paid shoots? If so, then the 5DIII should be your only choice...2 memory cards. I had a card fail that happened to be an SD card in my 5DIII. SD cards are used in the 6Ds...one card.

If you're not getting paid, I'd still go the 5DIII route. It's a better camera in just about all categories, especially focusing and just good ole' ruggedness. I had a 6D along with my 5DIII and finally sold it because it sat for months without a single click.

I used a 6D for several years before recently upgrading to a 5DS. Main reasons were superior autofocus and weather sealing. Have not been disappointed - think the improved focus has made a big difference to me. Imagine the 5DIII is similar.

Why not check yourself? Go into the DPReview review of any one of the cameras. Go to the RAW or jpeg image comparison page. Change the panels to see the cameras you are interested in. Then compare sharpness at any of the ISO levels you need.

I used the two 5D III bodies as a photojournalist for several years. No question, if you have the option, go with the 5D III. Just an all-round mid-range pro workhorse. The 6D and 6D II have some very nice aspects, but the 5D III is a serious working tool.

Didnt use it, just tried it in my hands - its so light, small and plastic...

However, i got plenty of friends, who switched from 6D to 5d3 - they all admit 5d3 is way better. Better AF, better body reliability, dual-cards and so on.

If you are shooting weddings a camera with dual card slots is quite important (IMHO)! That leaves the 6D series out for me. Tons of people may chime in "I've never had a card failure blah blah... its really rare." Oh really? I have actually had a total card failure on a wedding shoot and the backup slot absolutely saved that couple's wedding images.

Consider investing in a color managements system. It isn't expensive at all. Your wife and you can shoot the color chart, and then build profiles (this is one time operation) for Lightroom or Photoshop. This will apply to all images in batches and they will all match perfectly in color and tone.

I like the colorchecker passport. Cheap, super easy. Very quick to implement. Perfect results.
