What's going on? A7RII display and viewfinder remain dark - "low light"

Hi everyone,

this morning I was in shock. I wanted to shoot with my A7RII, but when I turned the camera on to take a photo the image on the display was completely black, with a small green candle symbol in the upper left corner indicating "low light". The same thing happens when I look through the viewfinder.

I tried with two different lenses and the same thing happened. Can anyone tell me what's going on here? :-(

I also removed the battery and memory card, I tried different shooting modes - to no avail.

Assuming you had removed the lens caps (I know you did, I just write this for completeness sake :) ) do a camera reset. Last page of the menu.

@ BBQue: The lens cap is removed, yes :-) I I did the "Setting Reset" on the last page of the menu, but nothing changed. It still says "low light" with the display remaining black... :-(

I think it would be helpful if you posted a photo of the LCD showing black and the warning indicator....

Under "Setting Reset" there are two menu items: "Camera Settings Reset" and "Initialize". One is a hard reset, the other a soft reset. I always forget which is which. Try both !!!

I tried both of them. After "initializing" I reset date and time zone and everything.. It didn't help.

This is how it looks like in AUTO mode (in P or other modes the message disappears, but it remains black):

Does image get overexposed if you remove lens and sensor is fully exposed to environment?
Just to exclude any lens mount electronics error influence, and to see if sensor resonds at all without lens.
Any visible damage inside/around sensor?

have you taken a look at the sensor? something on it?
Seems like the problem is solved. I fumbled around with the lens a bit, then there was an error message on the display telling me to switch the camera off and on again. This didn't work, the error remained. Then I took out the battery for a while and when I put it back in everything was back to normal and I could take photos again.

Strange.. I wonder what this was all about?!
