Buildings in London - the old and the new

Very nice pictures.

You may be aware this building caused some consternation when it was first unveiled. The curved shape focused the sun's rays and melted cars, bicycles and other stuff!

I remember the heat-ray well, it was a very impressive hot-spot. I actually think the building looks better with the shields to stop this happening.

I'm always intrigued when viewing classic old buildings interspersed with modern architecture. What's your opinion?

The first one looks very futuristic, very impressive.

Question to the 3rd one, was is done with the panorama function? Thank you

Ulrich
Thanks for viewing. The 3rd shot was not a panorama, I just got close to the building and at 28mm it all fit in. the building is nicknamed the walkie - talkie building and has an incredible 3 story garden/bar/viewing area (Sky Garden) on the top 3 floors with great 360 views of London, and its free to go up there. Very nice.

Yes, that happened because the developers did some 'value engineering' to the architect's plans, and removed the sun shades he'd specified. They reckoned, wrongly, that London wasn't sunny enough for this to occur, so they could save some money. They then had to retrofit the shades, which cost more than if they'd just built the architect's design. You can see the blinds on the windows in some of these images.
