Hi All,

I use Finepix S602 and i tried recordning movies in VGA mode. I am using CF card.

When i record movies, the camera need to stop recording every 20-25 secons for storing the recorded length movie on card. This happens aftre 20-25 seconds of recording every time. With this, i am not able to get a continuous movie clip even when my card has enuf space. It looks like the card is does not store the movies fast enuf, and hence the camera has to stop and empty the buffer every 20-25 secs.

Did anyone try this with S602? Is there anyway i can get a continuous recording with this camera? Also, i have not tried this with SmartMedia cards. Which is faster, Smarmedia or CF? ( Or will using IBM microsrive solve this problem?)

There is masses of stuff about this here. The Fuji manual does not guarantee Compact Flash is compatible. Smartmedia and Microdrives always work. Others have found faster cards like Transcend 32X and faste rwill work - but there are no hard guarantees. VOX

Hi,

I have s602 with 1GB microdrive. With this card you can shoot 1 GB of video without stopping. IF you're into video with the s602, get a microdrive and get the biggest you can afford (4GB coming this or next month)

---- read on if you plan on editing on ypur computer....

But remember - as a rule of thumb multiply ROUGHLY 8-10X your AVI movie size when you export that into DV stream for editing on your computer. IE. 4GB movie = +or- 40GB DV.

Best,

That must be an old Sandisk. Or some other very slow CF card.
All MD or SM would be fine. For CF cards, check the link in my

nish,

This indeed is a problem with the camera not being able to empoty its buffer fast enough.

This problem can be avoided by using a CF card with a sufficiently-high write speed rating. There ia a lot of material on this forum about this. One should look for a write speed rating of at least "16x", higher if practical.

With smaller cards, factory-formatted with smaller cluster sizes, an improvement can often be made by reformatiing with a larger cluster size (at least 8KB). How you can do this varies with the operating system on your computer. Again, there is a lot of info on this forum about that.

I note that one of teh respondents advocated teh use of IBM/Hitchi Microdrives, and evdiently good results have been achieved with them in this regard. He mentioned the emergence soon of 4GB Microdrives. It is unlikely that an S602 will be able to fully exploit a drive of that size.
