I've tried both although I must admit my experience with the 28mm is limited. I think it's a great lens for the price but the Canon 35mm F/2 IS USM is fantastic. It's very sharp and being F/2 is great. It's one of those lenses I have yet to find a Sony alternative to, even the Sony Zeiss 35mm F/2.8 doesn't match it (although its still a good lens).
I'd recommend trying the 28mm as it's an odd focal length. I feel much more comfortable using 35mm. If you want to get a 35mm Lens you won't find better value than the Canon. Even adapted I'd take it over the Sony Zeiss F/2.8 version.
It is a good lens but doesn't have quite the "presence" of some of the others in the system.Care to share your thoughts and doubts regarding the FE 28 ?
I'm still trying to figure out how to get the most out of itIt's one of my most used lenses on A7S and A7RII.
Thank you! I use Lightroom for all of my images. You have a nice set of images on Flickr.
What software do you use for landscape ?

28mm is easily one of the most popular focal lengths out there; particulary for street/documentary work. Most used until you have other choices.Care to share your thoughts and doubts regarding the FE 28 ?

I looked at my pictures taken with 24-70/2.8 zoom, and I hardly see one taken at 28.
I will have to wait for the Batis 35 which I hope will be an f/1.8 but I will settle for f/2.Anyone shooting both?

I don't like the distortion or anything else about it. Color, contrast, sharpness, bokeh and transitional qualities all fall behind any other prime (or even the 28-70 for that matter). The Sony 28mm is a great and tiny lens, however it has high distortion. I personally have grown to actually like this characteristic as you can leave corrections off and get a more interesting image at times.Anyone shooting both?

The 35/2.8 is better in every way unless you really need that extra WA. I'd say the T-Stop difference is minimal and its bokeh, colors, contrast and all the rest are IMO far better. The only drawback of the ZA is price, but you can find them at bargain prices in mint condition here and on FM or CL.However, just like you, the only reason I even have this lens is because I'm waiting for a 35mm F1.8 or F2 to come along.

The Ricoh GR and the Leica Q are 28mm BWOE.
28mm lenses are referred to as "the storytellers" in some circles.
The Zeiss 28 Distagon is known as the "Hollywood 28" due to its cinematic rendering.
My take is that in "street" circles the 28/35 split is fairly even.
