How about a 110 or 120 F1.8... or maybe a 140-160 F2.0... or F2.8 for a reduced size. Any possibility of these lenses having VR. What's on your fast prime Christmas list?

perhaps a 135/2E as well
YES... perhaps fur sure. Those E-Series primes were always pretty sharp and a real 'bang for the buck' at some pretty low prices. I'd vote for that one... ;)

A newly designed 180mm or 200mm f/2.8 lens !
Agreed... a new Nanocoat 180 F2.8 with VR... that lens would ROCK!

I'd like them to go the Tamron or Canon route and make fairly fast ones with lens stabilisation.

So instead of 105 f1.4, I'd prefer 105 f1.8 VR, or 100 f2 VR. Nikon could create quite a stir with a 135 f2 VR I think. But I don't think they will do it because they are not pioneers in things like this.

My fantasy nikon list would avoid new ultrafast lenses. The ones I'd buy with no hesitation:

1. FF:

14mm f/2.8 E AFS

105mm f/2 E AFS

180mm f/2.8 E VR AFS

2. DX (would push me to buy a d500 and downsize my Fujifilm estate)

10mm f/2.8

16mm f/2

70mm f/2

135mm f/2 VR (if more compact than a FF of same FL)

I would sooooo love to see those lenses come out... and Nikon does have the technology. The boys in Nikon R&D need to team up and create optics like these... ;)

These are the lenses I'd like to see from your list... :D

Why, they are just big, heavy and expensive clunkfests with too much glass in them? Why not make some trioplan type primes instead?

Doctors are bad for your lifestyle!
Not even... I'm quite sure that a 120 F1.8 would not be as big and heavy as that 105 F1.4 Nikon just came out with... that think is HUGE for it's focal length. A 160 F2.8 should be quite manageable also... ;)

Nikkor AF-D 38.7mm DX G

The current 35mm is too wide and 40mm not wide enough for my needs.

1 Nikkor VR 800mm f/5.6

The current 800mm is too heavy

14mm f/2.8 Nikkor-P Auto

Sorely lacking from this mount for a number of years now!

Turbo-Nikkor 1000mm f/2E FL AF-S ED VR

Looking at the usual suspects:
  • A fast ultra-wide. My own preference is for the choice of perspectives offered by ultra-wide angle zooms. So lenses like Sigma's 14mm f/1.8 are too specialized for me. Ditto a 17-18mm prime, which is the obvious hole in Nikon's current lineup.
  • A fast 135mm. If the right project came along, I might "upgrade" from my current 135mm f/2 DC. While I'd happily accept something like Sigma's 135mm f/1.8 if Santa gave it to me, I can think of many other ways I'd rather spend the ~$700-800 it would take to swap. Since a Nikkor would likely be half again as expensive as a Sigma, it would have to be very special.
  • A 180mm f/2.8 replacement. I use my current 180mm f/2.8D when I want to keep things light. To be market acceptable, a modern replacement would need a motor and VR, making the lens larger and heavier. Since (IMO) the 180mm f/2.8D is better optically than the 135mm, it would have to be even more special for me to pay for an "upgrade."
So realistically, I'm good with the current primes being offered. OTOH, I'm still pining for that 60-120mm f/2 FX....

I love small primes and really like Nikon's 1.8 range. I'd love a 135 2.8. I used to have one for the Minolta mount and it was just 300 something grams.

Yup, a nice, small AF-S 180/2.8E PF VR would be nice. Don't know what happened to the PF technology as seen on 300/4E PF VR ... it's been 2 years and a half since it's introduction and it's still the only one?

These are all to EXTREME... extreme wide angles and extreme telephotos won't gain popularity. Best and most popular offerings would range from 70mm to 180mm... and somewhat fast from F1.8 to F2.8... :)
