Hi - I am new here. Instead of asking tons of questions, I am just sharing I have been in the Leica store in Frankfurt (very friendly people) where they allowed me to make some photos with a Leica M and Leica Q (I was allowed to step out of the store for 5 meters :-) ) My very first experience with Leica!

I took the photos with me and looked at them at home. Two things strikes me:
1) The IQ, tone and dynamic range of the M are IMHO fantastic.
2) The photos I took with the M were sharper :-O and bokeh is fantastic.

I am a photo enthousiast (read amateur), but will start saving for an M. The time I have the funding completed, the M-P10 will probably available :)

Sometimes it is not only about IQ, tone, bokeh etc. etc. or endless discussions about subjective opinions. Nothing to do with if other brands are better or not, but sometimes it is, as it seems now, the manual focus Leica quality build and IQ experience that instantly made you decide that you are actually a Leica fan. Guilty! I want one!

Just because.

Welcome and be careful, you will find yourself down a slippery road that will hurt your wallet! :-)

Now I understand why they let you step out only 5 meters...the very inviting UPS truck with some Leica load may have been too much of a temptation to highjack, ha.:-) Just because.

Not sure if this is of interest for anybody but found a M9 with 11K actuations for 2K2 Euro. Good condition. A bit brass at the bottom but I learned that it suppose to have that ....

.... and this shutter sound, I love it. Read a lot about to loud (Ken R.) ; why to loud?. For me it just sounds great :-D

I might opt for that one, with a good lens, get to know this M9 better and decide later to upgrade to M10 if I feel I (so me :) ) I am worth a M10.

Funny one can get exited about Leica's.

Just a bit of FYI: Do some research on M9 sensor corrosion, and if that particular M9 has had its sensor replaced yet. The prospect of corrosion should not necessarily stop you purchasing the body, but you should be aware of the situation, its remedy, and the amount of time Leica might have the body if it needs repair.

Thanks James, appreciate the FYI.

I have looked at the results of some test photo's and was honestly not really impressed. They look a bit blue-ish out of the camera. Not sure if this is a characteristic of a sensor corroded.

Btw in the upper left of your pic N2 , i see a possible starting sign of corrosion , it's a dust spot with a white halo around , but I can be wrong .

if you want to check what sensor you have here's to you :

Do this with a charged battery !! ... :

You will get the M9 menu service .

Power on :

Push in this order : Delete -> up (2x) -> down (4x) -> left (3x) -> right (3x) -> Info

This shows the service menu.

Scroll down and up using the arrow buttons.

Press Set to select an item

Under Hardware IDS, you get something like this :

CCD ID: ? , that's your interest ....

CCD Board: X

Control BRD: X

M16CID: X

Hence :

CCD ID 5 = Old M9 Sensor

CCD ID 8 or plus = New Sensor , there are different versions but I think that from 15 and beyond it's the definitive new one.

Good luck , the M9 is a wonderful camera , but if you have an older sensor , from this august 2017 free replacement is not more available .

So i will pay attention , as we are almost at September now :-( :-D

If that M9 has the new sensor 2K is a good price for such a camera .

Best Regards , Gianluca

I have checked closely and at 100% your last pic , and definitely shows sign of corrosion.

if you wand to check for yourself , magnify the pictures at 100% and check the sky , you will see a lot of black/grey dots (dust) and many others white (sign of corrosion) ...... especially in the area of the top cloud.

Sorry
