The SX60 is on sale on Canon Canada's site. Not a big deal but as they don't give much (no) press to the SX series it just may be that the SX70 is coming soon. The way Canon announces new cameras is when they have been on the market for a week or two. :-)

The SX730 is just out but 720 not even on sale yet in Texas. Was hoping the 720 replacement might shoot RAW or at least have a touch screen. Nope! The only difference is a tilting screen and you can take selfies. Not big on selfies so I'm disappointed that and a $50 price increase is all there is.

If past history is any indicator the rumored SX70 HS may be announced at the end of August or the first of September. I'm not holding my breath...

I think the SX60's problems killed off that line.

Not very likely. The SX offered Canon's only "super zoom", EVF, twist out LCD and a hot shoe. The SX60 was a good camera only let down somewhat on the long end of the zoom range. With Digic 7 software and a less ambitious zoom range it just might be the next winner. No current G series or stripped down SX will do it all.

What's troubling is that Canon can do it. They simply won't until the competition forces the issue. Cutting into their precious lens and DSLR market would hurt their bottom line very badly. So it's the old "give the very minimum and remove something else" marketing program. Gotta love it. :-|
Difficult to see how Canon can hold back in relation to their DSLR market when the other brands would appear to be more of a problem taking out its market in compacts and bridges.

The SX60 was a bit like the FZ72 which never garnered much interest. Now Panasonic are rolling out 4K as a routine in entry level cameras and the FZ82 is going at £314.99 whereas the Canon came out at £449 though its price has dropped to £349 on Amazon.

Can Canon match the Panasonic technology at the price that is the question. If they trundle out a new camera at their usual high price point without their dual pixel and 4K at £450 it will surely crash and burn except amongst the Canon diehards. I wait for the riposte with multiple likes. :)

Edit: It is interesting how the larger more diverse corporations such as Panasonic and Sony are finding the new technologies in fixed lens cameras less of a problem. Nikon have failed in their DL project, Fuji and Olympus bailed out all together except in cameras for environments where the smartphone won't go.

It is really a matter of can Canon produce a £300 bridge with all the gizmos that people expect or can they still just sell on name?.

p&s cameras are all but dead. Canon and nikon aren't going to put much effort into dwindling sales products. Their efforts have moved to higher quality G X and M series cameras. These are growth and profitable cameras.

Agree. Panasonic - and Nikon, too - kicked Canon's butt with the FZ and P series super zooms.

I doubt even super zooms are in weak demand which I made no reference to. Not sure why you brought it up and other brands.
