I shot a scene in natural light with custom WB and ETTR first in DNG them in JPG plus X3F. Color checker passport profiles were created and used in lightroom where dng profile was applied and white balanced adjusted to CC Pasport to give three full size jpg. In camera and Kapanika DNGs are reduced in file size without data loss according to Raw Digger by processing through Adobe DNG converter. The color differences between the jpgs derived from DNG seem to mostly in the orange and yellows. All files available for download here https://www.dropbox.com/sh/9k7fpltwp6ptrjf/AABpBFqwf6b7j66_v4yL4xiAa?dl=0

I would be interested to hear your analysis.

I looked at the yellow patch with RawTherapee's L*a*b* color-picker:

L, a, b:

OOC DNG: 88.5, 1.5, 80.3

X3F KAL: 89.9, -2.3, 88.1

OOC JPEG: 91.2, -5.9, 88.9

My Macbeth mini-card's leaflet values: 81.7, 4.04, 79.8

The OOC DNG is closest in CIELAB color to my card.

The other two are more saturated, in terms of CIELAB 'chroma' (LCH).

Additionally, the OOC JPEG has a significant hue shift (LCH) - almost 7 degrees toward magenta.

The shots are excellent, BTW.

I am glad you like the shots.

Additionally to me, the OOC jpg Neutral looked OK but OOC jpg Satndard was garishly over saturated. Processing X3F to JPG Neutral looked terrible.

X3F KAL is 14 bit OOC DNG is 12 bit. I am not sure that makes much difference.

The added step of Adobe DNG Coverter , "AC", reduces file size by half.

So my workflow for now is:
  • Custom WB -> OOC JPG Standard + X3F then
  • X3F -> KAL DNG -> KAL DNG AC-> LR+PS with custom DNG Profile.
  • I think this preserves the most information, gives fairly accurate color, and minimizes the space and time required.
My thanks to the team that put Kalpanika together. They did a great service for Sigma users. Sigma Corporate is foolish not to work with them.

The in-camera DNG looks best to me, with the colors along the bottom row of the color checker looking most vivid, though the black point seems to be darker than the other images (maybe that's why). The Kalpanika DNG looks great too, and the last shot looks the most washed out to me. I think I'll have to download the photos and process them myself.
