I am trying to make space on my computer to make it go faster and I saw that ZoomBrowser is 4 GB!!! I never use it anyway since the computer loads my pictures using the Digital Camera Wizard. Does anyone know for sure if I can delete this program from my system and still upload pictures?

I doubt the zoombrowser program is what is actually taking 4GB of space. That probably includes a bunch of your actual photos in that 4GB.

Do you have older version of zoombrowser or newer? I don't know when the change took place, but the old zoombrowser was more of a database type of program (uugg!) that caused havoc for me, and Canon has changed that in the last couple versions. My point is that Zoombrowser used to keep images under libraries that were inside the Zoombrowser program folder, so you may want to back up your images from those libraries before getting rid of Zoombrowzer. Again I don't think Zoombrowser program itself is your space hog. By the way you may want to consider updating Zoombrowzer from Canon website, better now, but you probably will need to move your pics to a different directory (suggest under my documents) for the new Zoombrowser to see them correctly. In otherwords, the new zoombrowser is sort of blocked from getting into the old zoombrowser databases I think. You may want to talk to Canon.

If you don't use it you can certainly delete it, but I question your expectation that your computer will go faster when Zoombrowser is gone.

Generally speaking, a program that isn't running doesn't slow down a computer. You will, of course, save space on your hard disk.

I got rid of it. I thought it was a bit slow, and it didn't have any functionality that I didn't already have with programs I was already used to. I use XP to get the images off the camera. To rotate any images, or piece together a panorama I use IRFAN View, though I still edit and sharpen with Photoshop.

ZoomBrowser's not a 4 gig program though (it doesn't come on 6 CD's, right?). Dump it if you don't use it. Heck, you can always reinstall.

Good luck.

If you don't use ZB then remove it.

It sounds like it's time to back up your photos to CD. Do you have a CD burner? I'd put most of those Phots onto CD. Then you can delete them off the hard drive if you need the space.

2 things will slow a comp. down. 1. lack of ram memory & 2. a frgmented hard drive. When was the last time the hard drive was defragmented?

Thanks for all your help. I guess maybe I didn't think before I posted, as it doesn't quite make sense that ZB would take up 4 times more memory than my graphic-heavy flight simulator program.

I'm sure you can remove ZoomBrowser if you don't want it. You can still access your pictures/camera with other software. However, be careful! ZoomBrowser is nowhere near 4GB in size by itself. I'd suspect that your actual images are being stored under the ZoomBrowswer directory. Older versions of ZoomBrowser used to do that. Make sure you know where your images are and protect them before uninstalling ZoomBrowser!

Dump Doom Browser . . . I did !!!

Hated it mindlessly copying and rotating my photos. There are about six different "independant" utilities with ZoomBrowser. PhotoStitch, the RAW converter, Remote . . . etc. None needs the others.

I now use Ulead Photo Explorer, it allows drag and drop to Windows Explorer, et al. I still use all the Canon utilities EXCEPT DOOMbrowser!!!

The "Add/Remove Programs" of Windows is unreliable when it comes to total size of a certain program package. To get the real size of the Zoombrowser, "right-click" on the Zoombrowser folder, then click "properties". It will show you the actual space taken by the program.

True. It is really slow.

The only reason why I prefer to use it is the option to assign my own prefix when I download the pictures (e.g. I can have the pics named as '4th_of_July_xxxx.jpg'). I once tried copying (downloading) my pics through Windows Explorer. It is very fast.
