Hello all,

I'm looking to experiment with Fuji having been a Canon shooter for a long time. My typical type of photography is family, weddings (non prof) and travel. I therefore don't need speed. Would be great if you could help me out with a couple of questions:

- EVFs - is the XT10/20 viewfinder significantly smaller than the XT1/2? I'm used to a 5DIII on the Canon and concerned the Fuji viewfinders may be limiting.

- I'm currently thinking of dipping my toe in with a second hand XT1 rather than go full hog at XT2, but thought the XT10 also looks very promising. There are probably a thousand threads on differences, but for someone looking for a small, everyday runabout camera, is there significant difference between the two?

- I think I've settle on 35mm F2 for lens number one, but are there any third-party wide angles (24mm equivalent, so 16-17mm-ish) out there to consider that aren't £1000!?

If anyone else had made such an experiment from 5D series to XT1/2 I'd be grateful for any thoughts.

Thanks!

I can say is that the EVF of my X-T2 is much larger than the EVF of my former X-T10. In practise, the difference is huge! You may find the X-T10 EVF tiny. X-T2 EVF is also smoother and has less lag (with boost mode engaged), plus dual view which is a nice for manual focusing.
On the other hand, it is a bit coarser the pixel count being the same while the magnification is larger...

Between the X-T1 and X-T10?

is large aperture important for your wide angle lens?

Thanks, good to know about the viewfinder. please see other responses below

Yes, at this stage I'm considering XT1 and XT10

not particularly, so long as it's F2.8 at a minimum. I was looking at the 18mm f2 but concerned it might not be wide enough.

I have had the X-T10 and now use the X-T1 and yes, there is a noticeable difference in the size of the EVF. Even though it's older, the X-T1 EVF is gorgeous. If you ever experiment with manual focusing, imho the larger the EVF the better.
- I'm currently thinking of dipping my toe in with a second hand XT1 rather than go full hog at XT2, but thought the XT10 also looks very promising. They're both fairly small and light, X-T10 has a small pop-up flash if you need a bit of fill and auto mode for quick shots that can be quite handy, same tilt screen etc., However, the X-T1 has some important differences for me: better ergonomics and direct controls on the X-T1, weather-resistance (X-T1 + 35mm WR would make a great, light WR walk-around kit), adding the VG-XT1 battery grip provides nice stability if you add a telephoto lens to your gear, side-mounted SD card slot, etc. There are more technical spec differences between the two but it's up toy you whether they are important or not.

Rokinon/Samyang manual focus 12mm f2, 12mm Zeiss Touit (AF), 16mm Rokinon/Samyan/Bower f2 MF lens (but it is huge). Fuji has a UWA WR zoom (8-16mm f2.8) on the lens road map but will be $$$... Not a huge selection which is another reason to get an EVF that will help you focus manually. The X-T1 has a split screen display that gives a larger view of the subject in a larger window, then a smaller window on the side with a split screen focus guide. Very handy.

Whichever body/lens you decide on, make sure to update the firmware so everything works together properly.

If anyone else had made such an experiment from 5D series to XT1/2 I'd be grateful for any thoughts.

Thanks!

Going from the 5D to a XT you are making two fairly significant changes. First from FF to APS-C format. If you are good with that, the second is from an OVF to an EVF. I tried the Sony A7Rand I just could not stand looking at the world on a TT screen slightly delayed. Granted it is not much but enough in the case of sports scenes.

One option is rent. I added a Pro 2 to my D800E and will have to say my Nikon has been on the branch for about a year.

here is my 2 cent, I've just got into Fuji a month ago coming from Nikon D750 :

1) I like better the EVF form the X-T2 more than my FF D750 (not sure about X-T10 )

2) I bought a kit that comes with the X-t2 + Grip + 18-55 + 35 f/2 , $2300 in US, net savings of about $800 if you buy separately, I am not sure what is your budget, all I can ell you is that the 18-55 is a great lens to start you journey, your would not be disappointed.

I do macro, so, I am keeping Nikon for that, hoping that the future Fujinon 80mm will be as good as their other lenses ......then, I may end up doing a full conversion :)
