Remote Capture for Sony cameras? (like Canon software)

Hi guys,

One thing I really like about canon hardware is their driver and software availability. Recently I purchased a F717 and was pretty bummed that there is no 'prosumer' application that can remotely control and capture the camera from a PC (like Remote Capture for the canon cameras).

Does anyone know if there is an alternate solution for me?

Thanks,
Leo

Video out on the camera to TV or computer (assuming you have video
capture) to preview.
Thanks for the response - I just wish there was a solution more like Canon's - where you could actually control the camera's functions/options and also save direct to the computer.

As for the video preview... this is something that I am interested in, however didn't think it would work... I thought the video-out was only for viewing image/movie playback.

The video out method also will not give you a "real" file of high resolution to work with.

The wireless remote method will be fine for taking the shot, but it will not get it into your PC remotely for processing.

It does not yet seem that there is any news from Sony on this front.

replicates the LCD to TV screen in real time, least it does on my 717.

Some of the bird feeder shooters set everything up, including the video out, they watch the real time LCD on the TV screen and trip the shutter with the wired remote.

That's why the wired remote extension cord is mentioned. You can be in the house and not scare the birdies away.

Yes, I follow you on that. And I even like this method.

But I doubt that this is what the original poster is asking for. He seems to be asking for a feature like the Nikon and the Canon cameras have. These cameras are tethered via USB to the PC. You can then use the PC to completely control every function and feature of the camera, just as if it were in your hand. This is good for remote shooting sessions, studio sessions, or shooting situations where you want quick and easy access and transferral of the images to your PC. It makes for a nice workflow.

Ulysses,

You are absolutely correct... that is exactly what i am looking for. Unfortunately, it looks as if there is no Sony solution. This is a big dissapointment... i would think Sony would have something for this... they seem to develop apps for every other type of digital product... especially pre-installed on their VAIO computers.

thanks,

Hi,

it seems that there are no software-freaks at sony. ;-)

They build very good hardware, but they are very bad with software tools, applications, drivers and sometimes also with their device-user-interfaces (deleting a image on the F717 is so bothering ).

regards

It's too bad that Sony has to couple some very good hardware with that Pixela cr@p! That stuff is a total nightmare. What software does the 717 come with?
