I need some assistance. I recently purchased a d7500 Nikon. Beauiful pics, however, I can't can't them off the camera. Lightroom will not recognize the pics. I have updated all lightroom stuff, but it won't recognize the pics on the camera. anyone have that type of problem or what other method of download can I use. I have a d7100 and have no problem downloading these.

Solution
There has not yet been an update to Lightroom to support the NEF files from the D7500. If you are using Lightroom 6 or Lightroom CC 2015 there should be an update soon that will support those files. If you are using an earlier version of Lightroom then there will be a DNG converter available that will convert those files to the DNG format. But those updates have not yet been released, and no word as to when they will be.

The D7500 is new and Adobe hasn't updated its software yet for full compatibility. You are best served to use a card reader to transfer the files directly to a folder on your computer till then, Usually only takes a few months for Adobe to catch up....or in the next Light Room update.

thank you so much, so I'll just keep shooting and one day will download them all lol. thank you.

Adobe will not force you to buy an upgrade. But usually the Heavens just wont intervene. And you will buy an upgrade. Look: because you have been a long time client of Adobe, adding the new NEF processor will only cost you 90% of the initial software cost. Aint that real generous ?

I firmly believe that Adobe teams are hard at work trying to determine their best course of action, i.e. what is their most-money-making path ?

Keeping you waiting is certainly a core strategy. Once they, at last !, release the new version, you will be so exasperated that the chances that you will instantly buy the new version will be maximized.

I would love to be in Adobe's marketing department :-) So sweet !

Meanwhile, boil and whine as much as you want: they did not force you to buy a 7500 !

This post is a joke.

In the meantime, you could use Nikon's free Capture NX-D to import the images and then export them to TIFF. Lightroom will allow you to process TIFFs.

The downside is that TIFFs are huge, but again, that is just a stop-gap until Adobe updates Lightroom.

hmmm, I am a patient person so therefore will wait. No need to boil but will have wine!!

Thanks hdsjulian. Is it necessary to go through the Exiftool procedure , or can one just convert the new files to .DNGs and then view them as thumbnails on a Mac OS and process them just like a New in Lightroom? I remember being able to do that before with new cameras before Apple and Adobe caught up.

Adobe's DNG converter doesn't support D7500 RAW files yet. So you will have to trick the converter into believing that it is handling a D500 RAW file.

My estimate is that it will support them at the same time as Lightroom does.
