Hi -

I have the Nikon d500 with the AF-S Nikkor DX 18-300 1:3.5-6.3G ED VR lense. I shoot pictures of my son's travel baseball team. I am not sure if I have the focus settings correct. I have problems here and there with the player being out of focus when shooting pitching motions and sometimes when trying to track a player making a play. What are the best focus settings for baseball?

Current settings:

a1 AF-C priority selection: release

a2 AF-S priority selection: Focus

a3 Focus tracking with lock-on: blocked shot AF response 3 on the sliding scale, subject motion halfway point on sliding scale

a4 3D-tracking face-detection: on

a5 3D-tracking watch area: wide

a6 Number of focus points: AF55

a8 AF activation: Shutter/AF-on

a9 Limit AF-area mode selection: -- checkmark (no box) by Single-point AF while everything else in the list also has a checkmark in the box

a10 Autofocus mode restrictions: off

a11 Focus point wrap-around: off

a12 Focus point options: manual focus mode on, dynamic-area AF assist on, Group-area AF display top option, Focus point illumination auto

Set a8 to shutter or AF-ON. Cause if you're using AF-on and then press the shutter button you could be re-ffocusing what AF mode are you using?
