Hi guys,

I'm having problem with my DSC-V1 connection with my PC. when using the Image Tranfer to download the pictures from memory stick into my PC (windows XP), suddenly got disconnected in the middle of tranfers.

Sometimes got the "hi-connection USB device connected into non-hi-speed USB port" message, occasionally.
already install the USB 2.0 drivers for my PC.

Help! Help me...

Not sure I can help you directly, unfortunately (I'm a Mac user and don't use Image Transfer), but I wanted to mention that USB 2.0 (the high-speed version supported by the V1) is a hardware spec. You can't just install drivers to get high-speed USB on your computer -- you need a high-speed USB card also. Do you have this? Note that it shouldn't matter anyway, as a high-speed USB device connected to a USB 1.0 port will throttle down, and vice versa. Still, thought it was worth asking about.

the message is only appear sometimes, but the main problem is that the connection seem "unstable", sometimes connected, then suddenly disconnected by itself. (check the cable already, nothing wrong, i reckon)

Arinanto,

Nothing worse than hardware problems.

My experience with Windows XP has been that it should load the drivers automatically for your USB. The fact you had to load anything is a red flag to me.

When the camera is connected, have you tried running Windows Explorer (Right click on START then click on EXPLORE)? You should see the camera's memory stick as another drive. You should be able to browse through the pics on the memory stick.

Also, when you run Image Transfer, is this a Windows application or something that came with the V1? I never loaded ANY programs from Sony...Windows XP has all the utilities you should need.

Regards,
Steve

Agree :)

What I meant was that I installed the USB drivers from CD-ROM provided from V1 inside the box.

Everytime I connect the V1 to my PC, I can see the memory stick as another drive (and can browse through the pictures as well), but the problem is that after a while an error message comes out says that the camera has been disconected, and the memory stick disappear from 'my computer' in the Windows Explorer.

Image Transfer is a software from V1. Even when I use the utilities from WinXP, the problem still the same (the camera disconnected after some times) and totally cannot access the memory stick (disappear from Exporer).

Hi arinanto,

I have similar problem with a USB bridge for my cable modem, and some tech guy says it is the ASUS mohterboard incompatibality issue.

(I solve mine by switching to using Ethernet connection for the cable modem instead).

Not sure if yours is a similar issue.

But you can try uninstalling the V1's USB driver. (delete them in the Device Manager), and reinstall the USB drivers from XP or your motherboard's supplied CD.

See if it still persist. (If it does, try in on another system that is not ASUS, and see if that is the cause of it).

Perhaps you can try uninstalling everything that you installed onto your computer for the V1. I use Windows XP Home Edition and I never had to install anything to transfer the images from my V1 or P2. The first time I plugged in the camera, XP installs the drivers automatically. Now all I do each time is plug in the cable and switch the camera on then the XP camera and scanner wizard starts and it transfer the images all for you. I've also used Windows 98 SE which I did have to install the USB drivers but no problems there either.

Good luck!

Are you running Windows XP with the MS Update? If not, you neet to upload the Update from MS.

You also need to run the windowsxp update from the ms website. WinXP supports USB 1.0 and the Update or the Professional Edition has the drivers for the USB 2.0.
