I just got back from Ritz Camera where I went to purchase a 512mb xd card. I had seen someone in this forum had said that this size xd card would not function in the F700, so, before I left the store I had the salesperson put the card into the demo camera, and sure enough it started blinking in red "card error". How ludicrous is this??. The F700 has almost a 13mb raw file, which I prefer to shoot because it is much better, and the most I can shoot is 20 pics on a 256mb xd card. Stupid, stupid, stupid!!!

Stupid, stupid, stupid. Did you read this site which I have posted at least 20 times over the last months? Fuji clearly list the F700 as accepting xd cards from 16MB to 512MB! Maybe the problem is your particular camera or the brand of card? Or Ritz Camera? Most posters don't rate them highly. http://home.fujifilm.com/products/digital/smartmedia/index.html

Book mark this site & do some reading of posts past and the Fuji web pages before calling them stupid!

I am due to collect my new F700 on Monday (I am in the UK) and like you wanted the max card capability. I was reassured by the supplier that the 512MB card would be OK.

Looking to the future xD cards are supposed to be available in 1GB and upwards. Will they be natively compatible with the F700 or will it need a firmware upgrade?

I will post to confirm my 512MB card is recognised but at this stage have no reason to doubt it will be OK.

Actually, I've been reading these posts now for about a week, and I guess I've missed your posts. Also, Ritz Camera is the only place in a 10 mile radius that sells a 512 xd card. Anyways, I called Fujifilm directly and they assured me that it would work, but that sometimes the cards need to be formated before the camera can recognize them. So, after getting off the phone, I called Ritz and spoke with the salesperson I delt with. He was kind enought to format the Fujifilm xd card in his F700, and it still read "Card Error". He suggested that perhaps it is a faulty card, but that that is very unlikely. So, What to do?? Well, If someone has a 512mb xd and an F700 and they work toghether (or not), please let us know.

And what does your manual say? I'm not going to download it & read it, but that should clarify matters. If it really won't work, take the camera back to where you bought it. For a refund or swap.

Even my ancient Fuji 1700 that the book said would work with a 32MB card, worked just fine with a 128MB SmartMedia.

--Just to reasure everybody, I have been using the Fujifilm 512mb in my f700 for 2 weeks now and it is great. I shoot raw and have yet to miss a shot!
Gleaming the Cube as always,

I am using the Fuji 512mb xd card with the F700.

I bought both of them from Ritz camera online.

I did not format the card or anything, just put it in.

ETass,
. . . He suggested that perhaps it is a faulty card, but that
that is very unlikely.
What makes you say that? A memory card is likle many other products, and there can be defective ones.

You certainly need to rule that out before proceeding in any more complex direction.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. Good luck with you new camera, its quite a capable camera despite the fact its missing some helpful features (jpeg compression choice, image info on playback, info on fileviewer is very limited, etc.), and she is very fast!
